3 Holiday Weekend Fires in WNY



(WBEN) -- Firefighters across the region were busy early this holiday weekend battling three fires.

First, a family of five is homeless after an overnight fire in LeRoy, Genesee County.

Fire officials said it started on the back porch and spread. A dozen fire companies were needed to get it under control. At one point a ceiling collapsed around firefighters and they had to pull back.

The home belonging to David and Greg Luetticke-Archbell on North Road is likely a total loss.

Greg, who recently suffered a pair of heart attacks, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for observation.

No one was injured, but the family dog, Sadie, went missing.

The two own Frost Ridge campgrounds which has recently been sued by neighbors and the town over loud outdoor concerts and zoning violations. The family was at the campground for 4th of July activities when they returned home to find it fully engulfed.

Early Saturday morning, a vacant home on Koons Avenue in Buffalo was damaged by fire, causing part of the road to be shut down by crews battling the blaze.

A portion of the roof collapsed, but there were no injuries. The rest of the home is intact and the cause remains under investigation.

And Friday afternoon, a storage shed at a beef and cattle farm in Genesee County is a total loss.

Flames ripped through the structure on Little Canada Road in Bethany at about 3 p.m. at the Mike Adams Farm.

Owner Adams said he was working in the barn when he noticed black smoke.

No one was hurt. The structure contained bedding and feed. Fire crews were able to salvage other structures on site.

The cause has yet to be determined.
