3 Plead to Labor Racketeering

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say three men have pleaded guilty in a long-running case involving labor union racketeering in western New York.

The United States Attorney's Office says the three members of Local 17 of the International Union of Operating Engineers admitted violating a federal extortion law and agreed to testify against seven co-defendants facing trial.

They say 50-year-old Carl Larson of Boston was an organizer for Local 17 and 44-year-old Michael Eddy of Gowanda and 50-year-old George Dewald of Springville were members. They're due to be sentenced in May.

A dozen men in the Buffalo area were charged in 2008 with engaging in a campaign of violence and vandalism against nonunion construction workers and companies to gain work for members.

At least one of the other defendants previously pleaded guilty.
