Alix's Law Heads to State Senate Vote

Albany, NY (WBEN) The Senate transportation committee has passed a law aimed at closing a loophole in hit and run cases like the crash that killed Alix Rice in July 2011. Alix's Law now goes to a vote in the full State Senate.

Senator Patrick Gallivan sponsored the legislation, which aims to hold intoxicated drivers responsible if they leave the scene of an accident. Gallivan says the new law establishes a presumption an intoxicated driver knows or has reason to know he's been in an accident.

Dr. James Corasanti was acquitted of the charge of leaving the scene of an accident after arguing he was not aware he struck Rice.

Gallivan believes the law will not only pass the Senate, but the Assembly as well this year. Last, year, Gallivan says the Assembly just ran out of time to approve it before the end of the session.
