Amherst Police Warn of Suspicious Man



Amherst, NY (WBEN) Two separate incidents have Amherst Police on alert this weekend.

Thursday, Assistant Police Chief Charles Cohen says there were two incidents where a man approached girls walking home from school offering them a ride. "The first report happened at CHerrywood and Birchwood, and the second one was on Paradise near Williamsville East High School," says Cohen. Cohen says the first group of girls was alarmed and ran home and told their parents who called police. The second group was less alarmed, and Cohen says their parents called after hearing of the first case.

Cohen says the suspect is a white male, wearing pajamas and sunglasses, 40-50 years of age, driving a red sedan.

Cohen says be aware of your surroundings. "If something doesn't seem right, don't hide. Stay in public view where you're likely to be seen by a passerby," advises Cohen.
