Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- A woman has been charged with a hate crime and assault in the New Year's slashing of a lesbian woman's eye. The arrest was announced Friday.
Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita says 21 year old Suzanne-Deanna Grover will face a class C felony in the case. "Normally assault in the second degree is a class D felony, but if there's some evidence of it being motivated by hate, it's a C felony," notes Sedita.
29 year old Lindsay Harmon was cut in the eye outside Roxy's nightclub on Main Street in the early morning hours of New Year's Day. "What I know about thus far, is there are multiple versions of the events of what occurred outside of Roxy's...and all that information will be givent to the grand jury," says Sedita.
Sedita says the hate crime statute is one of the most difficult to prove.
