Arson Suspect Arrested in North Tonawanda
North Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) -- North Tonawanda police and fire investigators worked together to make a quick arrest in a rash of fires Monday night into Tuesday morning.
The photo of the suspect was shown during an afternoon news conference. North Tonawanda Police Chief William Hall says the suspect is a white male, wearing glasses and a v-neck t-shirt, medium build with dark, short hair. "It would appear by the video he was the one who started the tote on fire behind one of the businesses," says Hall.
Five vehicles, four houses, a garbage dumpster and a tote were damaged. One of the fires hit the City of Tonawanda. No one was hurt.
Last evening, police announced the arrest of Christopher Syracuse, 26, of the City of Tonawanda. Following the release of the surveillance image, a tip led police to pick up Syracuse at his residence. Police say Syracuse has admitted to setting all of the blazes, and will be charged with arson and criminal mischief.
Although Syracuse provided his reason for setting the fires, police did not reveal that motive at last evening's news conference.
