Astorino Unshaken By Polls, Ads

Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) - Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Rob Astorino is taking a tour through the state this week, and has spent the past two days in Western New York.

It's a bit of light campaigning before the race picks up.

"We're a little more than 70 days away (from the election), and this is the last week of vacations and people not really paying attention," Astorino said while walking through Niagara Falls. "That's going to turn quickly right after Labor Day. You're going to see our campaign up on TV, you're going to see a lot more aggressiveness."

Even though Astorino trails heavily in the polls, he believes that fallout from the disbanded Moreland Commission can help him gain ground in the coming weeks. "This is just unfolding. The grand jury is being convened this week. I think there's a lot more to happen and you're going to see a lot. Watergate didn't happen overnight and Cuomogate is just beginning."

While he says his television campaign will begin soon, Astorino's face has already been all over TV, in attack ads from Governor Cuomo's campaign.

"It should tell you a lot," Astorino said about the ads. "In 10 weeks he spent over $10 Million on purely negative ads against me, and that should tell you all you need to know. He can't talk about his record because he's embarrassed about his record."

Astorino sent a Cease and Desist letter to television managers across the state, asking them to pull one of Cuomo's ads. The Watertown cable system and Castle Cable responded by doing just that

Astorino also says he doesn't think too much about the polls so far before election day.

The election is set for November 4.
