Astorino to Announce Wednesday Whether He'll Run

New York, NY (WBEN) One of the potential Republican challengers for governor will call his shot Wednesday.

Rob Astorino (@RobAstorino) tweeted Tuesday his decision will come in a video news release. He and Donald Trump have been talked about as leading candidates to challenge Governor Andrew Cuomo.

If he's running, Astorino faces challenges in name recognition and fundraising. He's trailing badly in polls. But he has predicted he can win enough voters upstate and in the suburbs to overcome the heavy Democratic vote in New York City.

Astorino has been easily elected county executive twice in Westchester, where Democrats heavily outnumber Republicans.

Cuomo, who lives in Westchester, has not publicly addressed an Astorino candidacy. But he has mentioned Westchester's heavy taxes. Astorino has kept county property taxes flat throughout his time in office.

Astorino is 46 and lives in Mount Pleasant.

Trump (@realdonaldtrump) has said time and time again the Republicans must be united for him to campaign.
