I don’t know about you, but I was gratified to see the photos of a dead Gadhafi.
There’s something about seeing a melting witch that brings some kind of closure to decades of villainy and an amazing ability to escape the clutches of justice.
As pathetic as the videos and photos are, this is the same man whose government ordered the deliberate bombing of hundreds of innocent men, women and children in the skies over Lockerbie, Scotland over twenty years ago and who sponsored numerous murders of innocents.

And the Libyan dictator was in power from roughly the time Richard Nixon began his first term in office here in the USA until very recently; he was a giant thorn in our eyes for a long time.
While he had attempted to court the West (and vice-versa) in recent years, Gadhafi’s mercurial and sometimes bizarre statements and despotic policies in his own country eventually spelled his mortal doom.
Like many of Gadhafi’s ilk, he showed an uncanny ability to not only stay in power but to dodge assassination attempts and uprisings.
On Thursday Gadhafi’s time expired in a brutal way near his hometown, after months on the run from the rebels.
In Iraq, Saddam’s statues were toppled in a symbolic killing.
In Libya, Gadhafi himself was personally killed.
Out there in the blogosphere I am seeing a lot of people complaining about news outlets and web sites running the gruesome footage and photos of Gadhafi.
News isn’t always pretty, and with the number of cell phones out there with built-in cameras and video the “filter” of the major media outlets becomes less and less important.
For whatever reasons, the public seems to want to see and to know that the witch is dead. Our WBEN photo gallery of the grisly images is the most viewed area of our website right now.
In the case of Gadhafi, seeing him dead is kind of like looking under the bed to make sure the monster isn’t there.
If you feel guilty about whatever satisfaction you may derive from seeing a dead Gadhafi, just remember Lockerbie.
