Bills Release Kicker Rian Lindell

(WBEN) The longest tenured player on the Buffalo Bills squad was let go Monday morning when the team released kicker Rian Lindell.

Lindell, 36, has been with the Bills for 10 of his 13 years in the NFL.   He is the teams most  accurate kicker from inside 20 yards (100% T-1st). He also ranks first from between 20-29 yards (95.5%), between 30-39 yards (92.4%), third from between 40-49 yards (68.4%) and first all-time from 50 yards plus (52.5%).

But his longevity was in question, especially after the Bills drafted kickers in the last two drafts. This past spring Buffalo took Dustin Hopkins in the sixth round., and John Potter the prior year .

Rian is one of the top professionals I’ve been around,” head coach Doug Marrone Marrone told Buffalobills.com's Chris Brown .

“A lot of times those decisions are tough,”  Marrone said. ”I know about those things. I was released six times myself. I understand what the players go through. I understand what it’s like in that meeting. I want to make sure that I’m giving that player a lot of respect when those times come.
