Administrative Effectiveness Rankings
As they continue their annual ranking of area schools,  Business First has found that the once volatile elementary school ratings have settled on a fairly consistent winner.

For the third year in a row , Amherst's Smallwood Elementary is number one.

Smallwood has the second best scores on the state's English Language Arts tests  according to the paper's analysis of First analysis of 2005-2008  data, and the school also boasts the region's second highest math rating in the 8 counties of WNY. 

Business First took NY State Education Dept. test scores for all 292 elementary schools across Western New York, and used 4 years of data on fourth grade performance to develop the rankings.

The newsweekly's Top 20 Elementary Schools for 2008-2009: 

1. Smallwood Drive School (Amherst)
2. South Davis  (Orchard Park)
3. Maple East (Williamsville)
4. Southern Tier Catholic School (Olean)
5. Charlotte Avenue (Hamburg)
6. Ledgeview  (Clarence)
7. Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary School (Iroquois)
8. St. Peter's Lutheran School (Niagara-Wheatfield)
9. Immaculate Conception School (East Aurora)
10. St. Gregory the Great School (Williamsville)
11. Christian Central Academy (Williamsville)
12. Maple West (Williamsville)
13. Harris Hill  (Clarence)
14. Nardin Academy  (Buffalo)
15. Country Parkway  (Williamsville)
16. Ellicott Road  (Orchard Park)
