Friday, November 20th 2009 New Era Cap Company will close an Alabama manufacturing plant and may close a second plant as well. The only two remaining New Era manufacturing sites are another one in Alabama and one here in Derby, New York. Lower demand for its product has led to the closing.

Thursday, November 19th 2009 The answer to the question “Will New York State go broke in December?” is a resounding “Yes!” 70% of respondents to a Marist College Institute for Public Opinion poll feel that will happen. 88% believe the state’s budget deficit is a major problem.

Wednesday, November 18th 2009 Erie County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz says “Cash for Clunkers” provided a bit of a boost, but county sales tax revenue is still off nearly 5% this year compared to 2008. $1.2 million in new sales tax revenue was generated solely by “Cash for Clunkers.” The tax revenue numbers are only through September.

Tuesday, November 17th 2009 October manufacturing slowed a bit in New York State, but the Federal Reserve Bank branch in Buffalo says activity was still up for the fourth straight month. The Fed’s Empire State manufacturing index does not contain numbers for construction activity specific to Western New York.

Monday, November 16th 2009 No change in the local price for a gallon of gas in Western New York. The AAA reports it’s still $2.87 a gallon, on average for unleaded gas. That’s twenty-six cents higher than the price a year ago. The national average fell two cents over the weekend to $2.63 per gallon.
