BUFFALO, N.Y. — The executive editor of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Mike Connelly, has been named editor of The Buffalo News.
Buffalo News publisher Stanford Lipsey announced the hiring Tuesday. Connelly replaces Margaret Sullivan, who left earlier this month to become public editor of the New York Times.
The News reports Connelly was chosen after a nationwide search. Connelly, who is 55, has been executive editor in Sarasota since 2004 and led the newspaper to its first Pulitzer Prize in 2011 for its investigative reporting into Florida's insurance industry.
A native of Iowa and University of Iowa graduate, he started his career as a copy editor for The Wall Street Journal. He's also worked at the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press, The Baltimore Sun and Congressional Quarterly in Washington, D.C
