Buffalo Public Schools to Annex Pinnacle Charter School
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo School Board has unanimously approved a plan to keep Pinnacle Charter School open by annexing the school.
"What they're looking at doing is assuming responsiblity for the lease, providing an educational opportunity for the kids who choose to stay there by making an annex to an already existing school within the district," says board member James Sampson.
He says the plan would also call for laid off teachers to get first crack at jobs, then interview current Pinnacle teachers for positions.
The school year may not begin next week at Pinnacle, so Sampson says the board could be looking at a September 9th start date.
An emergency parent meeting is set for this evening at 6 at Pinnacle. "What this provides the families with is an opportunity to not wonder where their kids are going to go to school next week, whether it's a charter school or public school. They'll be in the same building," explains Sampson.
He says a joint discussion led to today's proposal during the board's emergency meeting. This plan must receive state approval.
