Buffalo (WBEN) -- The Buffalo School District and the Buffalo Teachers Federation have reached an agreement on the teacher-transfer case.

The district announced the agreement early Friday evening.  

The case involved the involuntary transfer of 51 teachers from three low-performing schools.

The district says the agreement allows it to comply with state and federal regulations and allows the schools "access to greatly needed resources."  

Plus, the negotiations on developing a plan for teacher evaluations can move forward toward the state deadline of January 17th.  

The district released the following statement on the talks:

"We are pleased that we were able to collaborate in order to reach an agreement on bringing closure to litigation regarding the use of the Turnaround Reform Model in three of our schools.  This agreement allows the District to comply with state and federal regulations and allows the schools access to greatly needed resources.
 
Now that we have managed to remove what was perceived to be a barrier to the continuation of the Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) negotiation process, it is extremely important that the District and the BTF demonstrate a mutual commitment to reaching an expeditious agreement on an approvable plan in time for New York State Education Department (NYSED) approval. 
 
NYSED Commissioner John King and Governor Andrew Cuomo have made it very clear that January 17th is the date by which plans must be approved.   Both the governor and the commissioner had asked for a 4 to 6 week lead-time in approving plans, so time is of the essence in submitting a District plan."
