Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - For one Buffalo company, today is the busiest day of the year, and it has nothing to do with Halloween.
"The World Series is our busiest, I'd say the NFL is busy, but this is our busiest time of year for sure" said Tim Shanahan, MLB Product Manger for New Era Cap. New Era shipped out thousands of caps in the early morning hours after the Boston Red Sox clinched the World Series.
Shipping out enough championship hats to meet the demand is tough, but Shanahan says keeping the design of the hat under wraps until the champs wear them on the field may be even harder. "In this day and age, with social media and digital, it's almost impossible to keep things under wraps. It's very difficult, and challanging on everyone's part, so my heart's always pumping a little bit quicker as we get closer, and I'm always checking different sites."
And what happens to all of those hats that proclaim the Cardinals as World Series champs? Shanahan says they don't exist. "We don't start building product until the team actually wins. So as soon as a team wins we have facilities where the blank caps are sitting, and the second after a team wins we start going in to production throughout the night and in to the morning. Unlike a shirt where they start printing earlier, we actually don't have that."
