Buffalo, NY (WBEN) No doubt you've seen the ads on various national TV shows: the roller skating carhops serving your hot dogs, tater tots, and shakes right to your car. Now, Sonic is actively pursuing an upstate boom, into Buffalo.
"We're currently interviewing potential franchisees," says Patrick Lenow of Sonic. "It's our hope that shortly we will have Sonics coming to Buffalo." Lenow says there's no timetable yet. "We have to reach an agreement with a franchisee in the Buffalo area, and then find the right real estate and the right location, but we are active in the Buffalo market," he adds.
Sonic is making its way through upstate New York, with stores recently opening in Binghamton. "Binghamton is open and it's done outstandingly well. There's pent-up demand. People know Sonic and love Sonic and have been anxious to have Sonic open in their market," says Lenow.. Could that pent-up demand mean success in Buffalo one day? "We certainly listen loud and clear for requests to come to markets, and we certainly have heard from Buffalo," answers Lenow. Lenow adds there's been a deal recently for five Sonics to open up in the Rochester area.
We all know Buffalo weather is unpredictable, especially in winter. Lenow says Sonic has been testing an enclosed patio in northern markets to keep customers warm in winter, and in summer, roll up the doors and let people enjoy the sunshine.
