Buffalo, NY (WBEN/PBS)- With the anniversary of the crash of Flight 3407 only days away, the PBS program FRONTLINE is examining the role and training of small region airlines line Colgan, the operator of Flight 3407. Today, regional airlines account for more than half of all scheduled domestic flights in the United States and responsible for the last six fatal commercial airline accidents.
With just days to go now before the one year anniversary of the crash of Flight 3407, familiy members of some victims are asking WNY'ers to "light the way home."
A tear filled Robin Tolsma, who lost her husband Darren, says "I just miss him so much." She and Jennifer West, whose husband Ernie also died, are asking the public to turn on their porch lights this Friday between 10 and 11pm, the hour that the crash occurred.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A year after a regional airliner crashed into a house near Buffalo, N.Y., killing 50 people, the government has failed to implement most of the safety reforms it promised in response to the accident, a government watchdog said Thursday.
A former chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board has called for authorities to ground all turboprop planes like the one that crashed last week in icy conditions, at least until the accident investigation is complete. But federal aviation officials insisted Sunday that the planes are just as safe in winter weather as any other aircraft.
