Tonawanda, NY (WBEN) - An elderly woman suspected of beating her husband to death earlier this month was arraigned in Town of Tonawanda Court today.
83 year old Phyllis Eson pleaded not guilty to second degree murder in the death of her 89 year old husband Norman.
An autopsy concluded that Norman died of trauma caused by blunt force blows to the head. "The blows, coupled with Norman’s frail condition, led to his death," police said in a statement. Officials said the woman had blood on her clothes when she answered the door. They said her husband was found dead on a floor.
Eson was previously scheduled to be arraigned, but a judge ordered her to undergo mental and physical evaluations. Her case now goes before a grand jury at Erie County Court.
