Erie County Lawmakers Approve Referendum on Legislature Size, Term Lengths
Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- The Erie County Legislature approved by a 14-0 vote a plan to have the voters decide on whether to reduce the size of the legislature to 13 members and to increase the length of the term to four years.
The legislature has trimmed its size twice beore, reducing the board to 17 members and back in 2003, downsized to the current 15 members.
Chairwoman Lynn Marinelli says "The action the County Legislature took today makes true reform a reality in putting the reduction of the Legislature to 13 members from 15 up to the voters of the Erie County. The legislature both honored the work and effort of the 21st Century Commission and makes reform a reality."
Before the voters decide, the Collins administration must sign off on the measure.
