107th AW airlifts Cav Scouts for weapons training
During the week of February 15th the New York Air National Guard’s 107th Airlift Wing, Niagara Falls, N.Y., transported more than 350 local NY Army National Guard soldiers from Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station to Ft. Pickett, VA. While at Ft. Pickett the soldiers from the 101st Calvary battalion were scheduled to complete their 2 day annual weapons training. Upon the completion of their training, the 107th AW will transport the soldiers back to Niagara. “Scouts Out.”

Falls Air Base Involved in Early Woman In Combat Test



ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York Army National Guard brigade will be among nine in the nation opening up jobs in combat units to women under a new Pentagon policy.

The state Division of Military and Naval Affairs says the Syracuse-based 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team will take part in a test program.

The announcement Thursday came as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced the policy change.

The headquarters units of  the 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry and the 1st Battalion 258th Field Artillery in New York City, and the 2nd Battalion 108th Infantry in Utica will be involved.

The positions include medics, intelligence analysts, human resources specialists, and staff officer jobs.

There are 1,657 women in the New York Army Guard.
