First to Worst Gets Even Worse
In the middle of a 10-game losing streak, the World Champion Boston Red Sox are struggling. So it’s understandable that they’re on edge.
So when Yunel Escobar, the shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays, stole third base with two outs in the 7th inning with the Rays already up by five runs, things sort of boiled over. There were words – piling on may have been mentioned, rubbing salt in the wound is more likely – and the benches cleared.
In the end, Jonny Gomes from the Red Sox was ejected along with Escobar and another player.
Someone needs to remind these guys, the object of the game is to score runs, not to take the other team’s feelings into consideration. And it should stay that way - at least until they make Doctor Phil the MLB Commissioner.
