The Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday signed Buffalo Sabres defensemen Jaroslav Spacek to a 3-year, $11.5 million deal on the first day of free-agent shopping in the NHL.
After three seasons in Buffalo, Spacek declined a one year deal with the Sabres.
Spacek, 35, had eight goals and 45 points for the Sabres last season, matching a career high for points set with Columbus during the 2002-03 season.
He scored 22 goals and 98 points during his time with the Sabres. He joined the team as an unrestricted free agent in 2006, and earned $3.3 million last season. |
Steve Montador (pictured above) has agreed to terms with the Buffalo Sabres for a two year deal.
The 6' 0", 210 pound defenseman finished the 2008-09 season in Boston with 21points (4+17) and 143 penalty minutes.

2009 Playoffs:
- Scored a goal May 12 in Game 6, his second career playoff goal and first since May 9, 2004.
- Recorded his first point of this playoff with an assist on Apr. 18 vs. Montreal.
- Is in his seventh NHL season and this is his second playoff.
- Has played in one Stanley Cup Final, losing to Tampa Bay in 2004 while with Calgary.
2008-09 Regular Season:
- Set a career season-high in assists with 5-17=21 combined totals with Anaheim and Boston
- Had 4-16=20 totals in 65 Anaheim games at the time of his Mar. 4 trade to Boston
- Added one assist in 13 Bruins games
- Had three multiple point games
- Played three games at forward.
History in the NHL:
