A chill is in the air. No, I’m not talking about the fact that the calendar has officially flipped to fall. This big chill has blown into two area malls, Eastern Hills and Boulevard, when Yogen Fruz debuted in those high-profile shopping centers.
What is Yogen Fruz? Contrary to what a friend thought, it is not the name of a Finnish hockey player, but rather an international chain of frozen yogurt stores featuring frozen yogurt made with real fruit, milk from real cows and chock full of antioxidants and pro-biotics, which means, "for life," and have been used for centuries as natural health-promoting food supplements.
Hmmm…Fro Yo that is good for you and tasty? Like jumbo shrimp, it sounds like a true oxymoron, but this is absolutely delicious and refreshing, all without that nagging feeling of guilt. Yogen Fruz is highlighted by “Mix It,” a create-your-own combo of low-fat, non-fat or no-sugar added frozen yogurt and a choice of 16 varieties of flash-frozen fresh fruit that is mixed in a machine while you watch. I was at the Yogen Fruz grand opening at Eastern Hills Mall on September 19th. Located near Center Court, it is bright, clean and modern-looking. I like the fact that it isn’t jammed in the food court. The reaction to the tasty yogurt and the friendly staff seemed positive all the way around. I had a mango and blueberry yogurt that was tart and delicious. The Captain Crunch topping is among the fun choices, along with Fruit Loops, nuts, and a potpourri of creative additions.
Yogen Fruz is good for the local economy’s health too. A total of 15 stores is slated to open in the Buffalo market in the next five years.
