(WBEN) Ransomville, NY - The Sheriff's Office received a 911 call from a hunter at about 6:30 pm reporting that he was unable to locate his hunting partner in the area of Youngstown-Wilson Road and Ransomville Road in the Town of Porter. Sheriff's deputies and State Troopers responded to the area and were advised an adult male hunter had not been heard from for about two hours. They were further advised the missing hunter had a cell phone and a radio but failed to answer either device when called by the complainant. The 911 center used 911 GPS technology to determine the last signal from the hunter's cell phone was south of 2408 Youngstown-Wilson Road. As police and fire responders from Ransomville Fire Company began to search, the complainant called 911 again at about 7:00 pm reporting he found his partner in the woods and he appeared deceased. Once again, the 911 Center used GPS to guide first responders to the location of the complainant and the lost hunter which was more than 1000 feet of the road. Once first responders arrived at that location, it was determined the hunter was deceased. Crime scene and investigators were called in along with NYS Environmental Police. Investigators will await the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The death does not appear suspicious at this time. The name of the hunter will not be released until family is notified.
