Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - A band of heavy lake effect snow is snarling the afternoon drive across the metro buffalo region.  The band of snow, over the southrowns earlier, has crept northward dropping an inch an hour across the mid Erie County suburbs abd city.  The band of snow is expected to again drift southward and weaken after 5pm.

There are numerous accidents reported on all major highways and commuters can expect a slow afternoon drive.
