Lake effect band impacts No. Erie, Niagara Counties

Buffalo (WBEN) -- It's been a Saturday of dealing with lake effect snow in the city, north towns, and Niagara County.

People across the region have been out with shovels, snow plows, and snow blowers.  Drivers have been taking it slow on the areas snow-covered highways.

The city of Buffalo had roughly 35-to-40 pieces of equipment out plowing the main and secondary roads.  And Amherst also had a full complement of highway crews working on the town's roadways.

The National Weather Service says a lake-effect band was impacting northern Erie County and Niagara County on Saturday afternoon. Snowfall rates of an inch per hour were possible with whiteout conditions on area highways.

People are advised do drive with caution and allow extra time.

The Weather Service says Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in effect for northern Erie and Niagara Counties until 10pm this evening.  Plus a Lake Effect Snow Advisory for Orleans County is also in effect until 10pm Saturday evening.
