The fire broke out on Sunday night in the town of Alexander, about a half-hour east of Buffalo.
The front part of the house was in flames when volunteer firefighters arrived on Sunday night. They got inside -- and were able to pull Scott Cramer, 47, from the burning home.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says Cramer was taken to a hospital in Batavia, where he was pronounced dead. Neighbors say Cramer was watching the home for the owner, who is in hospital.
Investigators say it appears electrical problems touched off the flames.
