On Oct. 18, 2103, Bartons decisive action stopped a woman from leaping from a roadway bridge to her death on to the highway below. Caught between the rules of his job and his training as a first responder, Barton stopped his bus, grabbed the woman and brought her back over the rail to safety. More Honors for Bus Driver Hero

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Another honor for NFTA bus driver Darnell Barton, who recently talked a woman from jumping to her death from a bridge. Today is Darnell Barton Day in the City of Buffalo.

Mayor Byron Brown issued the proclamation to Barton. "Buffalo is the city of good neighbors, and Darnell Barton is an ambassador for that, he is the perfect example of that," says Brown.

Barton says it's been overwhelming. "I appreciate and thank everyone for their generosity," says Barton, who in addition to the proclamation, received a $10,000 check from Donald Trump. Barton says the passengers and the kids at McKinley High, whom he was transporting at the time have been great.

As for the $10,000 from Trump, Barton says "My executive director, I call her my wife, we haven't sat down and discussed that yet."

Barton also says he's received letters and e-mails from around the world, including one from a woman in South Korea. "It touched my heart to know I've inspired the people of South Korea to take a stand against the high rate. To hear my actions inspired the people of South Korea is amazing," says Barton.
