(WBEN) - Town of Hamburg Police are turning to social media to release the latest details in a bizarre and deadly accident earlier this week along Big Tree Road. 29-year-old Jennifer Martello was found badly injured along the road, presumably the victim of a hit and run accident. Late Thursday, police issued this statement on their Facebook page:
Today, the Medical Examiner’s office along with members of the Town of Hamburg Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit and Detective Bureau have determined with a high degree of confidence that Jennifer Martello was the victim of a hit and run motor vehicle accident. Lab results on the clothing are pending. The investigation is ongoing and any information that the public may have in this case would be greatly appreciated. We also appreciate the media’s help in disseminating this information, however, it is not possible to respond to every inquiry. Therefore, information that assists the investigation will be posted here when it becomes available
Martello was found unconscious at Big Tree Road at Waterview Parkway, not far from the Eaglecrest Mobile Home Park near 12:30 Tuesday morning. She died Tuesday afternoon at ECMC.
Police closed Big Tree Road for about an hour while they investigated. Police were also seen entering a nearby home and towing away a car and police say debris was recovered at the side of the road.
"There were some items taken at the scene, whether they were affiliated with a car I can't say," Capt. Peter Dines tells WBEN.
Martello's husband told the media his wife went out for a walk after being distraught about news concerning a job.
Anyone that has information that may assist in the investigation is urged to call the Town of Hamburg Police Department at 716-648-5111 ext. 2502.
