The SPCA is working with Town of Lockport Dog Warden Barry Lobrin, the Niagara County Sheriff's Department, and state police to learn the circumstances surrounding the possession of these dogs at a home at 6603 Royal Parkway South in Lockport.
"We removed 64 pomeranians from the property, ranging in age from two weeks to nine years," says Amy Lewis, shelter director.
The owner of the property where the authorities recovered the dogs could face charges related to animal cruelty and violations of some town ordinances, Lewis says.
Veterinarians are examining the dogs to determine their health status, and they're hopeful the dogs will be available for adoption very soon, perhaps as soon as Wednesday. The shelter is already compiling a list of those wishing to adopt the dogs, Lewis says.
"So, those individuals will have priority picks, we'll give them calls on Wednedsay and have them come in and pick one out," she added.
To help in the care of these dogs, the SPCA is asking for monetary donations at its website, www.niagaraspca.org.
Plus donations of puppy chow and puppy pads can be dropped off at the shelter at 2100 Lockport Road in Niagara Falls.
