Police: Burglary Ring Targeted Churches



Machias, NY (WBEN / release) -- State Police say they have caught four people who broke into at least eight Western New York churches.

Facing numerous charges including grand larceny and burglary are:
Thomas J. Archer, 18, Machias
Christopher P. Rose, 18, Machias
Danae S. Chiarilli, 18, Cuba
Christopher M. Boilard, 20, Franklinville


The group reportedly stole cash, two safes, musical instruments, and other items of value. State Police in Machias say most of the stolen items were recovered.

State Police press release:
The State Police in Machias in conjunction with the Cattaraugus County and Wyoming County Sheriff departments announce the arrest of four defendants for a rash of approximately 8 Church burglaries throughout Cattaraugus and Wyoming counties.

Over the past 72 hours the New York State Police along with the Cattaraugus and Wyoming Sheriffs' Departments responded to numerous burglaries at places of worship throughout both counties. Items taken during these burglaries included cash, 2 safes, musical equipment and other small items from these locations.

Information was gathered and shared by these law enforcement agencies which directly lead to the speedy apprehension of the four defendants and the recovery of most of the items taken during the burglaries.

The State Police have charged; Thomas J. Archer 18, Christopher P. Rose 18, both of Machis, Danae S. Chiarilli 18, of Cuba, and Christopher M. Boilard 20, of Franklinville, with the following:

3 counts – Burglary 3rd – Class D Felony
3 counts – Conspiracy 5th – Class A Misdemeanor
3 counts – Possession of Burglary Tools – Class A Misdemeanor
1 count –  Grand Larceny 3rd – Class D Felony
1 count –  Criminal Mischief 4th – Class A Misdemeanor

Additional charges are forthcoming from the Cattaraugus County and Wyoming County Sheriff departments.
 
All four defendants were arraigned in the Town of Yorkshire Court and were remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. All subjects are scheduled to return to the Town of Yorkshire Court on July 24, 2014.
