(WBEN) -- Renegade Republican Carl Paladino of Buffalo (above middle) gained slightly in the latest Rasumssen Reports poll of likely voters for Governor in New York State, but his margins are small and do not come close to the lead held by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.(pictured, above left)
The poll released Thursday includes massive leads for Cuomo , but a slight up tick for Paladino and an also ever so slight decrease for endorsed Republican Rick Lazio.

Voters not affiliated with either party prefer Cuomo by 11 points in a matchup with Lazio but favor Paladino by a similar margin if he’s the Republican in the race.
Seven percent (7%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Lazio, while 15% regard him Very Unfavorably
For Paladino, Very Favorables are 10% and Very Unfavorables 10%
At this stage of the campaign, Rasmussen Reports considers the very favorable and very unfavorable figures more significant than the overall favorability totals

Cuomo earns 58% of the vote against Lazio and Paladino.
Lazio, a former congressman and unsuccessful Senate candidate in 2000, picks up 27% support, with nine percent (9%) undecided. Six percent (6%) prefer another candidate in the race, Rasmussen said.
Paladino, a wealthy Buffalo businessman, in turn, captures 29% of the vote. Five percent (5%) favor another candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely New York Voters finds Cuomo, a Democrat, Last month, Cuomo led Lazio 55% to 28% and Paladino 55% to 25%.
Before either candidate can challenge Cuomo, they face off in a September primary for the Republican Party ballot line in November. The primary will extend a nasty fight between Paladino, a proudly politically incorrect novice aligned with the tea party movement, and Lazio, a former congressman from Long Island.
Cuomo has consistently been far ahead for months, even when he wasn’t an announced candidate and even against the incumbent Democratic Governor David Paterson who dropped out of the race earlier this year. In previous surveys since March, his support has ranged from 51% to 56% against the two Republican candidates, while they both have remained in the 20s.
This statewide telephone survey of 500 Likely Voters in New York was conducted on July 20. The margin of sampling error is +/-4.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence, Rasmussen says.
