Quarterback Controversy Brewing?

Orchard Park, NY (WBEN)- Bills Head Coach Dick Jauron announced Monday that Trent Edwards, though improving, will remain on the bench this coming Sunday, opened the door to backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick getting his second straight start.
"Trent is just following right along in the protocol, " said Bills Head Coach Dick Jauron Monday morning, "Trent will not play this week. That's the proper protocol. That's the conservative approach, and that's the approach we'll take."
When asked whether Edwards will return to the starters role when healthy, Jauron side-stepped the question and said, "We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
Is this the start of a quarterback controversy? Perhaps. "There is not a quarterback controversy now, and the key word there is now." Paul Peck covers the Bills for WIVB-TV. From his vantage point, the starting job is Fitzpatrick's to lose. "If he goes out and plays well, there's no question in my mind that he keeps the job. If he goes out and plays the way he's been playing, and they don't win, because the competition is a little better, now there's a tough decision to have to make."
With the bye week to follow this weekend's game against the Houston Texans (Ralph Wilson Stadium, 1pm), Peck assumes the Bills would have plenty of time to evaluate and compare a healthy Edwards versus Fitzpatrick with another game under his belt. "They know if (Edwards) will be able to play in the game after the bye, and the decision will have to be made, one way or another."
