The New England Hockey Journal is reporting that Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs of Buffalo, is eying a purchase of the Buffalo Bills.
The speculation, comes in a column from Stan Fischler, who writes:
"Denials of a potential Bruins sale to the contrary, some insiders believe that Boston owner Jeremy Jacobs might quietly put his Bruins on the block, if he hasn't’t done so already.
The hook is that Buffalo-based Jacobs has been eyeing the NFL Bills for a possible purchase. In this case, the pigskin might take precedence over the puck. That’s one biggie to keep in your telescope."
NFL League rules say that in order to buy any team, Jacobs would have to divest any other professional sports ownership.
WBEN Hockey analyst Jim Kelley says that there has long been speculation in the Boston-region that Jacobs is looking to sell the Bruins, and Jacobs has reportedly had consultants try to assess the team's value as part of a succession plan, fueling further speculation that the Bruins are on the sales block.
Jacobs was also part of a deal to re franchise The Cleveland Browns at one point as a way to test the NFL waters and become familiar with the deal makers, but ultimately did not stay in the deal, Kelley says.
"He might and I stress might be interested, (in the Bills) " Kelley says.

"This is his hometown, it's also his corporate base, and if the Bills are to move out of Ralph Wilson's control at some point, there are very few people in WNY with the financial wherewithal to keep the team here and Jeremy Jacobs would be one of them," Kelley said. . "... Mr. Jacobs' is a very astute businessman and he knows exactly what the costs would be including trying to find the funds for a new stadium and that would be a priority for any new owner."
Jacobs owns Delaware North Cos in Buffalo, lives in East Aurora, and as chairman of the University Council is a major benefactor of the University at Buffalo.
Outside the region, he is perhaps most known however as the owner of the Boston Bruins, their arena, and the New England Sports Network .
