Report: Bon Jovi & Trunp Might Have Breached Confidentiality on Bills Bids

(WBEN/AP)  When rock star Jon Bon Jovi sent an open letter to fans about his intent to keep the Bills in Buffalo, he may have gone awry of non disclosure rules that surround the sale of the team. Real Estate Mogul Donald Trump may have also done so with recent remarks, The Buffalo News says.

In a letter published by the News on Sunday, Bon Jovi wrote that it's his ownership group's objective "to make the Bills successful in Buffalo."

Last week, Trump told Fox News Channel says he is unlikely to be the next owner of the Buffalo Bills because he's "not going to do something totally stupid" to make the team his.

"I'll be bidding, but many other people will be bidding," the billionaire businessman said on Fox News ahead of a last week's  deadline for prospective owners to submit initial offers.

Sources close to other bidders privately say they are encouraged by the comments from both Bon Jovi and Trump, an apparent violation of the confidentiality agreements in place for bidders.

After a review of the agreements,  apparently Sabres owner Terry Pegula and his wife Kim are the only three of the active bidders that have complied with the  team's s non-disclosure requirements, the News says.

The team is for sale after Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson died in March. Investment bank Morgan Stanley is screening bids for Wilson's ownership trustees led by his widow Mary.

The  Bon Jovi letter, titled "Why We're Bidding on the Buffalo Bills," marks the first time the New Jersey rocker has publicly discussed his plans regarding the franchise.

"There has been a lot of conjecture, so we think it's important to clarify our intentions to the fans of the team and people of Buffalo," Bon Jovi wrote. "I know how much the Bills mean to the people of this region. So I want you to hear this from me: I'm not risking it all to let you down. If we are given the chance to be the next owners of the Buffalo Bills, I promise you that we will bring the same passion that you do every Sunday, every day."
