A stretch of the Thruway between Hamburg and Silver Creek closed due to poor visibility, bad road conditions & several accidents. North Collins had a travel ban Wedenesday evening, and the Erie County Sheriff's Office was urging no unnecessary travel inthe southtowns for much of the evening.

In some cases, it was hard for plows to keep up. " Normally we can make a complete round from when we first start the route in about 2 and a half hours...(Wednesday) it took three and a half hours," says Michael Zywar, the Town of Wales Highway Superintendent.
The National Weather Service says Wales recorded 26 inches of snow between approx. 4 and 6 pm Wednesday. SEE TOTALS BELOW
A driver who stopped to help a lost truck driver in the middle of yesterday's storm in Wyoming county collapsed and died of an apparent medical condition Wednesday.
The Wyoming County Sheriff's Office reports the good Samaritan was a man in his 40's. His name has not been released.
The truck driver had stopped at Big Tree Road and Wallace Road in Covington and was looking for directions when the driver stopped to help.
