They're reacting on WBEN, sister-station and voice of the Sabres WGR Sportsradio 550, online, and amongst themselves.
Some of those fans are involved in hockey and figure skating activities at Northtown Center in Amherst.
Some say it was probably the right time to make a coaching change at First Niagara Center.
"It's just been a really long time since we've had ... a consistent, solid season, so it can't really be the players, can't really be anything else other than the one constant we've had is the coach," says one fan following her time figure skating.
Another fan says he's sorry to see Lindy Ruff go, but believes he was a great coach during his time with the Sabres. The fan also understands the Sabres had to make this coaching change.
"We need to keep the team moving in the right direction, and obviously that's not happening, so... you've got to make changes," says the fan.
In addition, anotherfan, Mike Demyan, says Ruff was a great coach, but it was time for a change.
"He just hasn't really fit the system the last few years. He's a defensive coach. The team used to be very defensive during their best years," he says.
Demyan also feels the next coach should focus on the Sabres' younger talent.
