The Bills are learning a new technique.

Joe Kim has been in OTA's this week teaching the Bills defensive linemen and linebackers martial arts. The idea is to teach them hand-to-hand combat to help in their pass rush.

Kim has been working with NFL teams since 1991. He's helped in Cleveland, Baltimore, Green Bay, Dallas, Miami and Denver. The man he's worked closely with throughout the years is new defensive line coach Bob Saunders. Before that he worked at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Kim says he worked a lot with Jason Taylor to give him something extra to what he already had.

So how will Kim make the Bills better? He said, "In pass rush situations, the defensive lineman has to go in with a plan. I've given him a plan, not just rush the passer, but how do you rush the passer, how do you beat the man in front of you? So, we give them a plan of hand quickness, where is his hand going to be, where is my hand going to be, where is my footwork going to be, where is my leverage pressure going to go. We drill that on the practice field so when they hear a play called, they know they're going to do a move right away so they have it pre framed in their head that they know what it is."

Kim loves working with football players. "I tell people I have the best job in the world. On any given day I could teach a four year old  taekwondo and teach a professional athlete how to use martial arts to become a better football player. It's great working with these guys at a high level because you don't have to worry about their athleticism or their learning curve. What this team has is they have the attitude that we have to try to get better and it's really exciting in that meeting room of the defensive linemen."

Missing from today's practice were Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed, Aaron Schobel and Shawn Nelson. Terrence McGee, Leodis McKelvin and Ashton Youboty all worked with the DB's during the individual period, but did not take part in team drills. Watching were John DiGiorgio, Jonathan Scott, James Hardy, C.J. Hawthorne and P.K. Sam.

Terrell Owens schooled young free agent CB Kyle Ward again. Owens did a stutter stop and then went deep catching a 40 TD from Trent Edwards with Ward about ten yards back.

We finally saw Lee Evans run a streak down the sideline. Edwards badly overthrew him.

The offensive line had trouble again as Chris Kelsay came free for a sack. It's not clear Edwards wouldn't have been sacked before he hit Owens on that TD.

Derek Schouman was again a big part of the passing game today, but we've seen that in OTA's a training camp before and it doesn't happen in the regular season.

Near the end of practice Marcus Buggs intercepted Ryan Fitzpatrick.

After practice Edwards stayed late adain to throw passes to Owens, Evans and Stevie Johnson for about 25 minutes.

The Bills are back on the field Friday morning.
