Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The lake effect snow you've been hearing about is finally here. The snow band has drifted into the Buffalo southtowns and will eventually settle south of Buffalo as the snow piles up. The snowfall could be just enough to snarl the afternoon commute, particularly into the southtowns.

The National Weather Service has posted a Lake Effect Snow Advisory posted for northern Erie and Genesee Counties until early Wednesday. A total of 3 to 6 inches of snow is possiblke in that area with some blowing and drifting.
Farther to the south, a Leke Effect Snow Warning is posted for the southern tier until early Thursday. Snow totals in that area could be in the 9 to 17 inch range over the entire period.
