Sheriff Howard Re-Elected; Defeats Dobson, Dunn

(WBEN) Erie County Sheriff Timothy Howard has apparently won re-election with 52 percent of the unofficial election tally early Wednesday morning.

Howard, who made his opposition to the NYS SAFE Act gun control laws a centerpiece of his campaign had over 85,000 votes to Democratic challenger Richard Dobson's 50,000 (31 percent) and only 27,858 ( 17 percent) for Bert Dunn, a Democrat who mounted a minor party challenge to both of them.

Republican Led Majority to Take Over County Legislature

(WBEN) For the first time since 1977, a coalition led by Republicans have taken the majority of the races in the Erie County Legislature, in a move that will take the chairmanship, top staff appointments and control of the agenda away from Democrats.

And it means that County Dem. Party Chair Jeremy Zellner loses his day job as Chief of Staff there/

"It really is a thrill  for us Republicans to stand before you and say we are now the majority caucus in the Erie County Legislature," said Amherst's Ed Rath. " ... change is coming to Old County Hall

(WBEN) One year after he took over the office on an interim basis, Incumbent Republican was Stefan Mychajliw, a former television reporter and public relations executive was re-elected to a full term as Erie County's Comptroller.

Weinstein Wins Amherst Super; OP and Hamburg Close

(WBEN) Republican Amherst Supervisor Barry Weinstein as returned to office, rebuffing a challenge from town board member Mark Manna. 

In other town supervisor races:  In the City of Tonawanda, incumbent Republican Ron Pilozzi was ousted by Democrat Rick Davis.| In Orchard park, Republican Challenger Patrick Keem was holding on to a slight lead over Incumbent Dem. Janis Colarusso | In Hamburg, incumbent Republican Steven Walters held a slight lead over challenger Walter Rooth III

NY Voters Authorize 7 Vegas-Style Casinos


ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York voters have authorized seven Las Vegas-style casinos to be built to boost the economy.
 
With 60 percent of precincts reporting, the constitutional amendment was approved Tuesday 57 percent to 43 percent.
