Time Warner Cable Raising Rates

(WBEN) - Time Warner Cable is once again raising rates for its cable customers.

The cable giant announced on Tuesday that it will be imposing a new fee for retransmitting broadcast stations that customers could get for free over the air with an antenna.

Time Warner says the higher rates will result in a 6.4 percent increase in the average customer's bill.

In a note to customers, Time Warner says "we work our hardest to control these costs on your behalf, but the price of programming is increasing dramatically."

Time Warner customers will soon be charged what is being called a "broadcast TV fee" of $2.25 a month. The company is also adding $3 to the monthly fee for all its internet services.

Earlier this month, Time Warner Cable was sold to Comcast in a deal that is still pending approval.
