Tolbert Makes It Official, Running for Mayor of Buffalo



(WBEN) Bernie Tolbert, the former special agent in charge of the Buffalo FBI office launched his campaign for mayor of Buffalo Saturday with a speech before about 150 supporters in half the same church gymnasium where Mayor Byron Brown did the same weeks earlier.

Introduced by his mother on the day before Mother's Day, Tolbert started a Democratic primary race against incumbent Mayor Byron Brown, and later a far less rigorous general election challenge to Republican Sergio Rodriguez in a city where Democrats outnumber Republicans by almost 8 to 1. .

In his address, he spoke of crime and education, but received the most applause when he spoke of neighborhoods.  Weeks earlier, in the same room , but filled with twice the crowd., Brown announced his re-election campaign stressing themes of downtown development.
