Trump, Astorino Take on Cuomo Over NY Gun Control

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Thousands of gun rights supporters have rallied at the state Capitol against gun control measures championed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
Celebrity businessman Donald Trump and Republican gubernatorial candidate Rob Astorino both addressed Tuesday's event at Empire State Plaza. The rally was in support of repealing a 2013 law that prohibited the sale of some popular guns like the AR-15.
Trump, who said last month that he would not challenge Cuomo, says the law demonstrates the erosion of Second Amendment rights. "You have the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, you have that right, and they want to take it away and they are taking it away. Slowly, but surely they're taking it away and they're not taking it away from the bad guys, because you know the bad guys are going to have the guns. They're not going to register and they're not going to do anything. And they're walk in and they'll have the gun and they'll be having the gun pointed right at you and you're going to say can we talk," said Trump.

Astorino, the Westchester County executive, says that if elected he'd work to rescind the law.
Cuomo and gun control advocates pushed the legislation following the 2012 Newtown, Conn., school massacre. When asked about Tuesday's rally the Democratic governor said gun control stirs strong feelings on both sides.
