Last month the Buffalo-area saw two bear incidents in as many weeks.
A black bear cub was struck and killed on the Niagara Section of the NYS Thruway near Smith Street; and an even larger bear was hit near Route 400 in more rural East Aurora the week prior. And just last week, a bear was spotted, shot, netted and died in residential Rochester.
The DEC says the bear is common in the Adirondacks and the Catskills, but the Allegheny region has approx. 400.
