We're Making a Change!

For 83 years, WBEN has been the dominant radio station in the Buffalo area at 930 on the AM dial.  Beginning Thursday, September 26th at 12 noon, WBEN will no longer simulcast programming on 107.7 FM WLKK and one great radio station will remain on one great dial position, 930 AM.

After  determining through research that 95% of listening to WBEN is happening on the 930 AM signal, we're making the change to allow for a yet-to-be announced radio option on FM 107.7.  While I'm certainly aware many people added the FM signal to their daily routine, the vast majority of you who enjoy WBEN continue to do so on the 930 AM signal.

In reality I know many of you are disappointed and upset about the decision as you used the FM signal when you were commuting outside of our regular 930 am coverage area.  I understand that concern and would encourage you to make use of our other transmission assets that may help fill any voids.

I myself use the WBEN iPhone app regularly to listen to WBEN when I'm traveling outside of the Buffalo metro area or simply am in a spot where the signal may be marginal.  The reality today is that you can hear WBEN anywhere in the world with the technology we have at our disposal.

As broadcasters, when we see that 95% of our vast audience is receiving us from one signal, it encourages us to seek a void in the marketplace and use the additional signal to help fill it.  That's the plan for 107.7fm WLKK and that will be unveiled Thursday.

Here's what WON'T change.  WBEN.

We will continue to offer you all the news and talk programming you depend on and enjoy.  John, Susan, Sandy, Rush, Tom and the complete WBEN News Team will be there for you every day, whether it's 930 AM, here at wben.com, the iPhone and Android apps or the WBEN mobile website.

I welcome your comments below and thank you for listening to and relying on WBEN!

Good decision!
It is actually a very wise decision. Most us , as you state, do listen to WBEN via app or internet --and our car radios are set to 930AM - You may get a few grumbles, but I applaud the decision and look forward to the new changes on 107
09/24/2013 2:45PM
Disappointed, but a good move.
I am retired and listen to WBEN daily, very often from 5 AM right through 7 PM or later. I have two locations, in Elma and Wales. The AM signal is fine in Elma but sometimes sketchy in Wales, where the FM signal was exceptional. However, I can fully understand better utilization of precious spectrum allocation useage, so while I'm a bit disappointed, it's a good move business-wise.
09/24/2013 2:47PM
No! Say it ain't so.
Who even still has an AM option anymore? I guess I will go back to listening to music. You should ditch the AM - it doesn't sound as good as good as FM.
09/24/2013 2:59PM
Darn
I was hoping you were giving Bellavia his own show in place of Jim Blowhannon, the cure for insomnia.
09/24/2013 3:13PM
oh well
For me its not a good decision. AM signals always are bad for me. I'm not the technology slave that everyone else seems to want to be. no smart phone, No apps, No internet and no more WBEN I guess
09/24/2013 3:13PM
107 FM
Bring back The Lake FM
09/24/2013 3:17PM
Too bad
I don't get AM reception in my office, don't have an iphone and can't stream online. I'll have to listen at home only.
09/24/2013 3:32PM
The LAKE
Bring back THE LAKE!
09/24/2013 3:43PM
70'S MUSIC
I hope the new station plays decent music
09/24/2013 4:02PM
Flip-flop
Dump 1930's AM technology for current FM stereo.
09/24/2013 4:03PM
Missing the Lake
I loved the Lake and listen online, but that's not the best option right now for driving around. Would LOVE to hear it back on FM 107.7. Quality music for adults, there's not a station that offers that like the Lake did.
09/24/2013 4:11PM
Lost a listener!
Sorry, AM stinks compared to FM. Everyone I know listens to the FM side, I doubt the 95% is factual. First you move Sandy and Tom around, then you take away FM. Time for new management!
09/24/2013 4:13PM
Mr. F.C.Genco
This will reduce my ability to listen by about 85%. The machines at work are DC and become AM spark generators blocking any AM transmissions. I rejoiced when I could finally listen at work, and now you yank the rug out from under me.
09/24/2013 4:19PM
Whatever
I guess you do what you have to do. I can get used to listening to WBEN on the AM dial. I got so use to the FM simulcast, but most AM stations in the U.S. do not have FM simulcasts. Heck, WHAM 1180AM in Rochster is only on the AM dial. I'll live. It'll be great to see what station format goes in the 107.7 slot!
09/24/2013 4:20PM
doesn't matter
since you've switched Sandy and Tom, I've pretty much stopped listening. So it really doesn't matter any more.
09/24/2013 4:32PM
Can't you also go back to being strictly a news station and get rid of the partisan hacks?
Well played WBEN. Now you can be a full-time AM Hate Radio Station. There's no tradition with you. If there WERE an 83 year tradition, you would simply report the news, and that's that. Instead, you go with the low-hanging fruit of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh. So much for any shred of journalistic integrity with those two clowns. Sad too, because I remember your coverage during the Blizzard of '77. Good reporting, good journalism. Now all you have on are partisan hacks. Oh well, good luck with that!
09/24/2013 4:34PM
lake
bring back the lake...ditch the racists and bigots on wben
09/24/2013 4:41PM
Rats!
I listen to WBEN on a real radio. Sure wish you would keep WBEN on 107.7 FM. We are out in the country and the reception on 930 AM was not good at certain times of the day. Hate to go back to that.
09/24/2013 4:42PM
smooth jazz
How about a Smooth Jazz station at 107.7? We had one many years ago in Buffalo, but it disappeared.
09/24/2013 4:42PM
Disappointing move...
95% of your listening audience is via AM? Well, I immediately moved to your FM side and have enjoyed the MUCH IMPROVED clarity of broadcasts ever since. I won't be a regular listener ad you move back to AM. Sorry... disappointing move on your part, in my opinion.
09/24/2013 4:48PM
Oh Well......
I have interferance problems at AM in my home, so I have enjoyed the FM option. However, I continue to have more distress over the switch between Tom and Sandy. Please bring Sandy back to the PM drive time, and put Tom on the FM station which doesn't broadcast you any longer.
09/24/2013 4:48PM
Change
Bring back Rotary phones too! What a giant step backwards. Maybe you can bring back Clint Buehlman.
09/24/2013 4:52PM
A Step Back
I was happy that you went to FM. The signal was so much better. Now (save for when I am home and have access to my computer)I will have to listen to AM. That is so old school.Did that come after the telegraph? I guess I should go back to listening to cassettes. Mike
09/24/2013 4:55PM
Disappointed
This is as bad a decision as switching Beach and Bauerly. I think I'm done listening.
09/24/2013 5:09PM
Dropping 107.7
Who did your survey, same one who told Obama everyone welcomes obamacare? Joe
09/24/2013 5:14PM
one thing your study didnt take into account
your younger audience doesnt listen to AM, the sound quality is HORRIBLE even worse when you have a good sound system in your car or home. i think you are giving up the younger crowd that listens to bauerle on the way home from work.
09/24/2013 5:19PM
what study?
who under the age of 50 listens to AM anymore
09/24/2013 5:31PM
the "GREAT" change.....
I was thrilled when you went on to 107.7! I could finally listen at work to intelligent radio! We can't get AM in the shop.AND cell phone use is prohibited(btw not everyone HAS a smart phone,Tim)ALSO-not everyone has a computer at their workstation that is ABLE TO BE CONNECTED to INTERNET. Great-back to the same old repetitive play list of songs.I have been a faithful loyal listener an fan of Bauerle,Beech, and Rush, and more recently,Bellavia ,for a long time.THANKS FOR DITCHING ME AND OTHERS LIKE ME. Thanks for nothing.
09/24/2013 5:31PM
Another vote for
Bring back the lake
09/24/2013 5:36PM
BAD!
You ignored me because you don't own WYRK!
09/24/2013 6:15PM
FM Better
I live in the little town of Brant, and pre-dawn reception here is very weak on AM. I was happy that you went to FM, and I have been a life long listener to WBEN (that's 73 years - remember AMMCCB and the weather report was "Our Ther".)Gonna miss the FM, especially during winter when I wake up at 5 AM and will have to listen to walked on signal. Bad move.Bob Kirwan (aka Harvey Niceday).
09/24/2013 6:19PM
this sucks
I don't believe your percentages are what you say they are. With that said, I can't get AM stations cos of the weak signal. I'm deep in the southern tier. You need to re-think this move.
09/24/2013 6:21PM
Fits nicely
For a station whose politics are stuck somewhere about 1955, it's fitting that it goes back to being on a medium whose heyday was about 1955.
09/24/2013 6:35PM
Don't do it
I drive for a living in the south towns and I don't get good am reception down here will be very upset!!!
09/24/2013 6:36PM
John in Rochester
Y'know, you could completely waste the 107.7 signal by simulcasting WWKB, and compete with AM 950 in Rochester for that .00001 share of the audience!
09/24/2013 6:53PM
power up am signal
Please find a way to power up the am side for those of us down in the southern tier especially at night
09/24/2013 7:39PM
WuWu
Bring back WuWu.
09/24/2013 7:41PM
The Lake
Since you still have the music loaded on an overworked computer (broadcasting in HD)... bring back The Lake and Lorne Hunter.
09/24/2013 7:56PM
WuWu
Bring back WuWu from 30 years ago.
09/24/2013 8:12PM
107.7 The Lake!
Bring back The Lake with its deep cuts and b-sides! Lorne!
09/24/2013 8:41PM
The lake
Make the Lake an all financial and stock analysis station with similar formats of the business TV channels.
09/24/2013 8:57PM
One more for the Lake
The Lake coming back would be great... that was an intelligent format!
09/24/2013 9:10PM
NOT A GOOD IDEA
In this day and age frequency modulation is the way to go!
09/24/2013 9:23PM
I can no longer listen
I do not get AM at my work either. I am not allowed to have any other listening device so I will not be listening after Sandy signs off Thursday
09/24/2013 9:23PM
from North Carolina
I haven't lived in Buffalo the past 21 years....but I still listen to WBEN via internet streaming every day down here in NC.
09/24/2013 9:35PM
Progressive Talk
Bring back progressive talk on WLKK. Its the best way to build Entercom's audience.
09/24/2013 9:47PM
Brad
Tim, Please bring back 107.7 The Lake format. A great option for Entercom;the station was unique in the market. Throw some advertising dollars behind it and you will see success!
09/24/2013 9:49PM
signal strength
Why is your signal on AM so weak past South Wales and areas south?
09/24/2013 10:23PM
So Long WBEN
I liked listening to WBEN at work most of the day, makes it go by faster than music all day. I work in a machine shop with lots of metal and machines, and electronics, so AM radio does not come in at all. As for using the apps, unless you guys plan on paying for the data plan that I would need to stream it 40hrs a week I guess I wont be listening.
09/24/2013 10:45PM
HD Radio Simulcast
Will WBEN simulcast on 102.5 HD-2?
09/24/2013 10:46PM
Dislike
I only listen on 107.7. I really cannot stand the AM Reception sound. I get the business decision, but now I will not listen to WBEN unless I am able to stream which is pretty much never. I wish you would re-consider.
09/24/2013 10:49PM
Can't Listen
AM reception is terrible. But, The Lake was great.
09/24/2013 11:48PM
FM Signal is & was always clearer
The FM signal versus the AM signal is like the difference between a solid Digital TV signal versus an old analog TV signal. I am genuinely surprised and disappointed that the majority of WBEN's audience did not make the switch to listening on the FM station, especially when it is so much clearer on FM.
09/25/2013 1:41AM
Awful idea
Who did you guys poll during your research? 95 year old widows?? It's like u traded in your star tac for an iPhone, tried the iPhone for a year, then went back to the star tac. Any one of your younger (future) listeners would prefer the clarity and range of your FM station. In an age where satellite radio is gaining ground over its terrestrial counterparts, AM radio is on the way out.
09/25/2013 3:16AM
Terrible move!
Most portable devices such as MP3's and IPOD's do not have AM bands. Not everyone has a smart phone and those that do don't carry extra batteries with them. Whoever did your research should give you back your money. The days of little portable AM radios went out in the 1960's. My wife and I listen to the FM simulcast while walking, waiting for and on the bus. And I know we are not alone. The FM simulcast has allowed both of us to listen to Rush, Tom & Sandy as well as keeping up with breaking news while out. Also, the FM is less scratchy/noisy then AM at home. Please reconsider this move that provides you with less listeners.
09/25/2013 4:40AM
95% listen to AM?
You might want to check that survey. Amplitude Modulation is going the way of the horse and buggy. I have noticed when up in the city that the AM signal comes in better in places than the FM. Still, us folks out in the country get the FM station so much better and we are able to listen at night and in the winter. Maybe those 95% are all city folk. We don't all have smart phones either with unlimited data packages. Too busy trying to pay the other bills. How about going to 50Kwatts? Then I could listen to you instead of WHAM which comes in better down here in the Southern Tier.
09/25/2013 6:13AM
wise move !
WBEN is an awesome source of up to date news. I could never get into a News talk station on FM. Hope to see 107.7 become a station similar to what AM was in the 60s and 70s. Good music and good light talk . Similar to what WKBW and WGR55 use to have.
09/25/2013 7:51AM
Shut down the AM feed too.
You people have done enough damage, even moreso in the low-education red states. "Boo hoo we want 30 million Americans to die excruciating deaths and that fascist communist wants them to have health care access. Waaaah" Go away.
09/25/2013 7:52AM
Improve signal
Can,t you increase your AM signal strength to better cover the Niagara frontier.
09/25/2013 7:59AM
Good move
I have listened to the 107.7 option since the change, but you still have the option of 102.5 HD2 for an FM signal. Since you still have the WLKK call letters, I certainly hope you intend to bring back the Lake format. It is very difficult to pick up the HD signal for 107.7 so it would be a very welcome change for Buffalo radio.
09/25/2013 8:10AM
AM over FM?? Yea, right.
"After determining through research that 95% of listening to WBEN is happening on the 930 AM signal." Seriously? And just how did you determine that?? "Research". LOL! Yea, most everybody would rather listen to scratchy, low quality, weak reception AM as opposed to clean, clear FM. I have been a faithful listener to 'BEN for many years now. However, in my office (in Lancaster)for example, I always had a very difficult time with your AM signal. When you went to FM, problem solved! It was great! Now, you're going to walk backward? How much of the public actually listens to AM anymore? (Oh yea, I forgot - your "research" says so.)For me, I'm not going back to tin foil on the antenna, turning the radio on it's side, etc. just to get even the scrtachy, weak reception. As much as I really enjoy WBEN's daytime programming, I'm not going back to the "noise" of the AM signal. I'll have find something else to listen to to help get me through the day. BTW: Many of us that listen from work during the day are not allowed to listen online. Many companies institute that policy in order to keep the systems from getting bogged down from too many users of online streaming. I'm surprised that your "research" didn't indicate that?
09/25/2013 8:18AM
Disappointing
Oh well, at least there are other good options on FM
09/25/2013 8:18AM
Bad decision!
I have been a loyal WBEN listener for 30 years, especially when I lived in Genesee County and the signal was clear. You have been a daily routine, listening as I fall asleep at night and catching the news as I wake up and most of the time in my car as well. When I moved to the Southen Tier, I lost the ability to listen to my favorite station a lot of that time. I cant tell you how happy I was when you added 107.7!!!! Down here the FM signal is our ONLY option, especially at night, as we get NO AM signal when the power is decreased at sunset. I dont have the ability to stream. I wish you would have done your marketing research down here not just in the city, I think you would have found your 95% number to be wrong. I know its too late, but I wish you would reconsider your decision and keep 107.7...
09/25/2013 8:24AM
Online Feed
I use the online feed on my computer at work. The audio quality varies it seems like. Sometimes it sounds great, other times the volume is up and down. Not sure if there is anything you can do about that?
09/25/2013 8:31AM
Rural Area to Suffer
Your FM signal was strong and clear all the time in the rural area (50 miles south of the "city"). AM signal becomes weak early mornings and late afternoons - drive time for me. This is not the right move.
09/25/2013 8:36AM
Niagara County Signal
I'm not sure why but there are dead spots in Niagara County, when I lost WBEN 930AM while driving to work in the morning. The FM signal was always clear and I never missed any current news to start my day. OH well....
09/25/2013 8:37AM
THE LAKE
It makes sense bringing back The Lake on 107.7 considering that is still being streamed on the interwebs and on 107.7 HD2. Also, two other sister stations, WWKB & WWWS could benefit from internet streaming as well.
09/25/2013 8:45AM
What happens
What happens when at around 8:30 EVERYDAY 9:30 sounds garbled? when I switch to 107.7 it comes across clear as a bell. Very hard to listen to 9:30 at thaat time. and when I go to my daughter' s house outside of rochester we can only access the station on FM? Very disappointing. I seee that I am not the only one expressing this feeling.
09/25/2013 9:20AM
Agree, Progressive Talk
Give WNY a choice. We need Big Ed Schultz, a man of the people, to balance off the voices of the corporate hacks.
09/25/2013 9:22AM
Not happy
First you take away my Sandy... now the FM dial. uugh
09/25/2013 9:44AM
Boooo
I always listen on 107.7 - it sounds so much better. I don't like this change....
09/25/2013 9:48AM
Too Bad
This is a disappointment. I began listening to WBEN because it was on FM. Even with the best AM reception, the audio quality doesn't hold a candle to a FM signal. I enjoyed listening on my 45 drive to and from work, I don't think that willlast very long driving in and out of AM signal. To add insult to injury I'll be missing the newly re-scheduled Baurle show on the way home...
09/25/2013 9:54AM
RE Shut down the AM feed too.
Lies are lies no matter what the radio frequency and this propaganda outfit's got plenty of 'em.
09/25/2013 9:57AM
All about the advertising revenue
Switching Tom and Sandy was just weird. I listen less frequently now because everything is just off. Listening to Tom trying to do traffic breaks is like slamming on the brakes every time you stop your car. I'm not sure he'll ever get comfortable with that. And it definitely disrupts the flow of his shows. Sandy has too little to say to be speaking uninterrupted without traffic breaks. Bottom line, your ads for Buffalo Babies sounding like cats being tortured and the endless plugs for puppy mill dogs at Steve's Pets says it all. Revenue is slipping away. You should admit it.
09/25/2013 10:02AM
Really? Going back to only AM? Are you kidding?
What is this, the 1950's? Who listens to AM anymore? Who would think this is a good idea? Who did you survey, 10 people living in the City? Are you sure you didn't read the results incorrectly? I am guessing the results likely said something more like: 95% of respondents asked "WHAT IS AM?", not "we listen to AM."
09/25/2013 10:13AM
Overall, the comments give good reasons to reverse this decision
PLEASE reconsider this decision. If you cannot give WBEN an FM voice on 107.7 any longer, please find another FM station on which to broadcast or simulcast. I agree with the commenter who indicated that they cannot afford the data plan it would take to stream WBEN on a smartphone for 40 hours a week, because most employers do block internet streaming, since they say it "distracts their workers" and they simply do not wish to pay for the data service to support it, especially when the result is a sluggish network for their employees' "legitimate" work-related internet activity. I also agree with all the folks who you will lose because your AM 930 signal does not reach their more-or-less remote location. I simply do not understand how your research could have produced such a high percentage of listenership for the AM as opposed to the FM signal. Tim, please explain how this percentage was achieved/reached.
09/25/2013 10:30AM
Par for the course
After finally bringing your station into the 1980's by adding FM and allowing people in the Southtowns to hear your shows before sunrise and after sunset with a clear signal - away it goes. Since you switched Sandy and Tom I don't bother much to tune in on my ride home anyway...thanks for the memories.
09/25/2013 10:54AM
Your "Research" Phase Was Very Poorly Handled
Am I given to understand that Arbitron, which is based in Ohio, performed research for you by phoning or mailing some of the folks in your listening area, in order to come up with their "95%" number? Why would a station (WBEN) that routinely polls its listenership with daily internet polls fail to reach out to their actual listeners with the question about whether or not this move would turn out to be a good one? Instead, this decision was made without consulting the very people you wish to gain and/or keep in your audience. The result now is that you will have alienated the very people you wanted to keep, because you left them out of the decison-making process. WBEN could have announced (for a week, so as to catch sporadic listeners, too, whose opinions should ALSO count) that they wanted to conduct an online poll of ALL their listeners, as to which station they would prefer to keep, if given only one choice. Then, offer the two choices, FM and AM, and see what folks have to say. You'd get your answer, without outsourcing the research to a firm which cannot presume to know, from another state, who, or even where, your listeners really are. (You could have announced this poll online, on your website, concurrently, in order to reach your internet-streaming listenership.) As for the fact that you are still available on your internet stream, that won't help most folks to be able to listen in their cars. And your still simulcasting on your 102.5 HD Radio station won't help the folks who don't own an HD Radio.
09/25/2013 10:56AM
Why not please the listeners?
After the initial disappointment of switching Tom & Sandy, now this? I always listen to the FM because it comes across so much clearer. I have listened to WBEN for 30 years. Why don't you do what makes your listeners happy???? Sandy's show is so easy to turn off (which I usually do, but Tom's I would have on all morning - listening while I worked around the house. Please run the radio station to please your listeners. Don't be afraid to admit you made a mistake, or come clean on why you really switched Tom & Sandy.
09/25/2013 11:04AM
Full Circle
Another sports station?
09/25/2013 11:17AM
It's a swap...
I lose WBEN on the FM signal, and you lose a listener! I can't get the AM signal. It's as simple as that!
09/25/2013 11:34AM
It's a RADIO station!
Yeah, it's nice that you offer all this high-tech alternative for listening. But it's a RADIO station! No matter. Your signals, AM or FM, don't support the Southtowns anyway. We are forced to listen to the slowly, but progressively reduced actual programming in relation to the increased advertising time when we are able to receive it. And the awful advertising is just what makes me shut off the radio and to seek other ways to occupy my precious listening time! Why must Buffalo radio advertising include the obligatory annoying, distracting and awful music behind the person announcing the message? Nobody gets the message because they can't hear it! Good luck!
09/25/2013 11:43AM
Help Out Factory Listeners
You wouldn't believe the things we tried to get Football & Baseball games in the plant when I worked in a Niagara County Factory. Only the guys on an outside wall would be able to pick up stations. On the off shifts we'd run a hundred feet of speaker wire from a radio on the outside wall. Since Entercom has the Bills contract, it would be nice if you would broadcast on am FM station with decent power. For that reason I trust that your advertisers aren't as much as they did when 97 FM had them
09/25/2013 11:46AM
Bad decision.
Don't know anyone who listens to the AM signal. The AM signals sound quality is terrible in comparison. Very annoying to listen too. I can barely pick it up at all in the car. I and others I know will miss the WBEN programing. I think the coming WBEN ratings drop will prove what I say to be correct. Very bad decision. Classic case of over thinking.
09/25/2013 12:06PM
what a mess!
What the heck is going on over there? I'll help you out. First bring back 107.7 the lake format. As for wwkb 1520 does anybody listen to espn? I listen to wgr alot and at12:00to 3:00pm i turn to 1270 am the fan. Bring back progressive talk to wwkb 1520 before someone else does see its really simple go back to square one.

Could Have done better
I listen to FM because of the far reaching quality outside of Buffalo. If you had ditched 930 then you would have had everyone switching to FM plus adding those that are outside the AM range. Now you will lose instead of gain.
09/25/2013 12:56PM
Too bad, so sad
I was thrilled when I was able to listen to 107.7 in our office! Our listening hours went up 90%. We can't get AM signals, so I guess that's the end of WBEN. I agree an online poll should be done, and Tom and Sandy should be switched back.
09/25/2013 1:04PM
Horrible management decision
This is absolutely a horrible management decision. First, Tim W. decided to switch Sandy and Tom around... I understand you want to try new things (just like adding FM), but the masses have spoken! We do not want to listen to Sandy in the morning and Tom in the afternoon. I am sure if you took a "research poll" on that, somehow 95% of your listeners would say "they like the Sandy/Tom switch"... maybe it's the same so called 95% listening to AM still. Next, you're cutting FM? It's the 21st century, and AM is on the way out. FM offers so many more benefits over AM, and it's absolutely hilarious that you think your listeners prefer AM over FM. That's just a blunt lie to cover a decision that doesn't really have a good foundation. There are a lot of young listeners that listen to the FM side on the way to and from work that you are going to lose. I hope Entercom decides to make their own changes and hire a new Operations Manager. You just lost a listener not just because of choice, because AM just doesn't work where I live (or in the car).
09/25/2013 1:18PM
really?
Heres the solution. Bring back 107.7 the lake format. Then on 1520 wwkb bring back progressive talk. Please!
09/25/2013 1:44PM
Very un-happy
I am an avid dedicated listener, and I travel for work. I am in my car most of the day 5 days a week and in very rural areas and I do not get the AM stations. I am deeply saddened that I will not be able to listen much anymore. I am extremely surprised by the 95% number, are you sure that is factual? As other's have mentioned, I was not a fan on moving Tom and Sandy around, but this is a real kicker now.... I can only hope for FM broadcasts in the future I guess. Not pleased at all with this.
09/25/2013 2:17PM
Where is the common sense?
Who would listen to the AM signal when you can receive it crystal clear on FM. Hope you guys didn't pay for that research. Also very hard to receive AM signals inside most buildings and the sound quality is terrible under the best of circumstances.Really dumb move unless you are trying to destroy your advertising revenue as I betting your ratings plummet after this bone head move.
09/25/2013 3:25PM
Another Poor Decision
It was bad enough when Tom and Sandy changed schedules. Sandy made the ride home interesting and often times funny. My husband enjoyed listening to Tom in the morning. AM is fine in my car but not in my office...FM is a must. Also, while it may be offtopic, please have the morning show on-air staff stop saying "around here". Once is bad enough, but several times throughout the morning ... OMG! Take a hint from 740 AM -- they are intelligent and FUN.

you forgot to mention HD radio
How about putting WBEN on one of the HD signals of 107.7FM just like The Lake is now, this way anyone with a digital radio can still get WBEN on 107.7
09/25/2013 4:14PM
change
Country please! We only have one station in that format. We don't need another easy listening station
09/25/2013 4:55PM
Please reconsider the change of taking off 107.7 WBEN
I live in Fredonia 50 or so miles west of Buffalo. We can only pick up 930am at certain times of day and even then it is very scratchy and hard to hear. When you went to 107.7fm it was like heaven opened up. It appears to me that you only want to cater to your city of Buffalo listeners because as I am reading from other comments I am not the only one with this problem. Also I am a staunch conservative in politics and cannot get any other talk shows worth listening to. I implore you to please reconsider your actions as they may hurt some of your listening audience. I do not have access to HD radio in my car and I do not own an I-radio ,i-pad , or any other form of modern technology to pick up WBEN. I do own a computer however I cannot access it all the time.
09/25/2013 4:56PM
Changes
I realize that radio in its current form is pretty much dying, but AM radio has been dead for thirty years. I do not understand when given the option why you would pick AM over FM. The AM signal and sound quality is just horrible. I don't understand why this seems to be a good business decision. 107.7 was the only reason I still listen to regular radio. Now I will be forced to listen on the phone app which constantly drops signal and kills my battery--which I can't realistically listen to while driving. You've pretty much forced me out of your listening audience. The other 95% of your listeners are fools or creatures of habit. Take away the AM and go FM. What could you possibly replace your FM programming with that will be new and unique?
09/25/2013 6:52PM
Bed, Bath & Beyond
Perhaps Mr. Winger should consider a new position? I think maybe cashier at Bed, Bath & Beyond would be a perfect match.
09/25/2013 6:54PM
I will miss Tom and Sandy
I hope WBEN will one day return to the FM band. Until that day I will not be hearing the great talk. AM is yesteryear sound, and my ears are now only FM band. Hopefully there are some other good FM stations, I will do something I have not done since 107.7 started, I will search. Thanks for the great run, you will be missed.
09/25/2013 8:04PM
Noooooo
Put baurle back on in the AM
09/25/2013 8:28PM
Disappointed
I live in Groveland NY and the 107.7 signal comes in great. WBEN 930 AM does not have a clear enough signal to listen to your programing. The idea of listening to your shows for hours at a time when I am working around the house, or garage or driving towards Rochester on my cell phone is not going to happen. I wonder if your statistics adequately captured the audience in Wyoming, Livingston and Monroe counties? I understand business decisions but one wonders if keeping the FM station wouldn't have been a better decision given it's reach and with new markets. C'est la vie.
09/25/2013 8:40PM
Equal Airtime
OK ... so since WKBW got changed to ESPN radio ... you lost someone who listened to KB EVERY WORK DAY ... ALL DAY LONG ... maybe put progressive radio on 107.7. I'm still listening to those shows, but using TuneIn on my phone. But alas ... this probably won't happen since the company only wants you to hear THEIR opinion.
09/25/2013 9:13PM
Why
Your AM signal is weak. What is it, 50 watts? Can't get it when I am next door to the transmitter. I only listened to the FM.
09/25/2013 9:26PM
BRING BACK THE LAKE GREG RIED
IF IT WASNT A GREAT STATION, THEN WHY ARE PEOPLE 2 1/2 YEARS LATER ATILL TALKING ABOUT IT. BRING IT BACK U KNOW WHO I AM. I EMAIL YOU ON A RPETITIVE BASIS ABOUT HOW MUCH WE ALL MISS IT
09/25/2013 9:45PM
The original Lake
How about this? Bring back The Lake with it's original line-up: Doc Phillips, Tom Donahue, Tina Peal, Lorne Hunter. It would be great hearing Doc and Tom in the morning again!
09/25/2013 10:04PM
terrible decision
what does your research say about your programming getting into Chautauqua County ??? i listen every weekday from 3pm til maybe 3 am some nights ....no am reception in my building.... 107.7 was a Godsend...why not move everything to 107.7 and change 930 ??? Seems you would get a better cleaner signal to more people, but i realize im only one of the 5 %%....why dont you post that research on this website ??? i'd be very interested
09/25/2013 10:23PM
Unfortunately, the management controlling WBEN makes a wrong decision
Instead of being forward thinking, the decision to end the FM service for WBEN reverts to an ancient solution. Was any thought given to keeping the expanded service coverage FM provides to an enlarged audience and doing something else with 930 am? The result now is to leave a bad taste in the mouths of loyal listeners outside the immediate metro area and demonstrate a significant lack of vision. Too bad!

Nursing Home Residents Are Very Disappointed
I work at a local Nursing Home. Everyday the residents gather round to listen to Sandy and Tom on FM 107. It is truly the highlite of their day, as they get coffee and sit around at tables listening to WBEN FM. They won't even eat lunch until Sandy's show is over. They take a break after lunch and all return to listen to Tom's afternoon show. It is fun for them and encourages then to engage in conversation. We also monitor all news and weather through WBEN FM at the Nursing Home. We do not receive any AM radio signals in our facility and we aren't allowed to use cell phones and computers are only for official business. Today we broke the news to the residents that today will be the last day they will be able to listen to WBEN. The residents were so disappointed and now are asking what are they going to do. One man came to me with tears in his eyes and said that Sandy and Tom are like his family and know he has lost them. It is a very sad day for these residents. Have some compassion WBEN and return WBEN to FM.
09/26/2013 12:18AM
Good bye Tom and Sandy, Good riddance WBEN management
I listen every day on 107.7. Tom, Sandy, Rush, Ken Brown, The financial guys. 930 only occasionally comes in out here and when it does it SUCKS. Hard to listen to that poor reception for even 5 minutes. You lost me.

I am the young audience you will LOSE
I am 27, and in the past 2 years I have greatly enjoyed the programming your station has offered. So much,in fact, that I often listen to it in the car and at home with my young family. The 107.7 FM location introduced me NOT ONLY to WBEN, but to the idea of actually listening to talk radio in first place. I think that your recent(with a few days notice)decision to remove your programming from the FM dial is a terrible mistake for many reasons, but I will try to name the few most pertinent: 1.) The data that you(Tim Wenger)claim at the top of this thread is completely wrong(the 95% AM listeners figure). If you disagree, I challenge you to post the FULL DISCLOSURE of the research AND post a WBEN poll(as others have suggested)to ALL listeners as to what modulation they prefer. Supposing it(95%)is sound, is it such a great leap to assume that people will switch from AM to FM based upon the obvious benefits of FM(sound quality and range), and the inherit benefits for a radio station (a broader audience)? Why deny yourselves a greater audience with greater geographical range and a supremely better sound quality? 2.) It Unnecessarily alienates many in the audience that were added as a result of the FM dial acquisition, many of which must reduce their listening hours to little or 0 on AM(myself included). Related to this are those of my age group who have ZERO or very little familiarity with the AM side of their standard radios. Direct Translation: NO ONE in my age group cares about AM, except in small cases for sports. 3.) Relying on streaming to make up the difference is a HUGE mistake! Many people's days are busy and listening to the radio is an escape from that, but radio programming is NOT the reason that people use their smart phones or computers!!! Streaming has myriad complications as opposed to simply tuning in a radio: There's buffering, data consumption, and reception to worry about. Even with your improved App(which I appreciate), by the time it takes me to navigate these issues, I am usually already turned off or at my destination in a car(as would be the majority of the target audience). When this change is implemented, I will no longer listen to this station. This really upsets me, but it is matter of choice and quality on my part. I will find other mediums to occupy my time, and WBEN will lose me and my family of 5 as listeners. It is shameful that the station did not so much as poll their own listeners for an opinion!!!
09/26/2013 5:52AM
Everybody makes mistakes
Tim, When you are sitting there and they are explaining your severence package. Remember this day, it's where you went wrong.
09/26/2013 6:52AM
AM sounds terrible.
As much as I enjoy listening to your station when I listen via AM radio I can not stand the static AM radio brings as for me I will just switch to a new station to listen to through my car rides. Younger people dont use AM. So the older crowd on here that says they do not mind AM when they pass on your station will pass on as well.
09/26/2013 8:44AM
Entercom programming decisions
These big changes prove that fascist radio is dying. The blowhard bombasts from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 a.m. can't hold an audience anymore. Intelligent, entertainment -- what used to be on KB1520 -- has been thrown away by Entercom's "researched" change to ESPN radio, a complete programming failure. Bauerle's goose-step agenda is unlistenable, especially in the afternoon. Beach at least has rare moments of humor. The Lake on 107.7 had my devotion, but this country music programming is horribly dull. Tim Wenger can't be this incompetent; this must be the work of the cigar-smoking alcohol-swilling bosses who know what they want us to listen to, but can't understand we don't like to be led like oxen with a nose ring into their political swamp. Wenger, as a front man, lies to us about the research just to keep his job. At least changing the FM station programming limits the damage Entercom can inflict on the public. Thank heavens I can turn off the radio and tune to what I like on my iPad. In a few years my grandkids will be asking me what radios were for, and I'll tell them, "Well, before Entercom, radio used to be a form of education and entertainment . . . ."
09/26/2013 11:25AM
Poor Move !
Here in Sardinia,NY we cannot pickup 930 AM reliably . 107.7 was a Godsend for us until today. Plus there is an app for an Android phone but none for a kindle. How about something for a kindle user so we can continue listening. We actually can hear WHAM 1180 better than 930 here so it looks like we will be moving there
09/26/2013 11:42AM
Poor choice
This is as bad a decision as switching Beach and Bauerle. I'm pretty much done listening.
09/26/2013 12:17PM
So much for that...
Well, just made another attempt to tune in via AM 930. No luck. Can't get it in at all. We used to be able to get it in the office, although it was a very weak signal for the most part, but still able to at least listen in. However, can't receive any signal whatsoever now (Lancaster). Well, so much for being able to listen to WBEN all day. (sigh!) I must be one of the 5% that doesn't listen to the AM side.
09/26/2013 12:26PM
Swap transmitters with KB!
If you insist on staying with AM only, perhaps you should consider swapping transmitters with KB. Their 50,000 Watt transmitter would certainly solve the reception issues for WBEN listeners. They (KB) certainley don't have any programming worth wasting 50,000 watts on! I know, I know. Not that simple. Just wishful thinking.
09/26/2013 12:36PM
Where is the Gunslinger?
Shane, Shane, come back! Shane!
09/26/2013 12:38PM
No more confusion????
Brilliant marketing move! You think we listeners are naïve enough to think that 95% of people 'surveyed' actually listen on the AM side? It must be you don't hold a very high opinion of your audience, judging by your radio spot 'promoting' the cancelling of the FM side. "No more confusion"? So you think that after 3 years your listeners are CONFUSED by a simulcast? I am sure they all think: "Hey wait a minute, why is WBEN on a nice clear, strong, great sounding FM channel? I am sooo confused! Why isn't it only being broadcast on 1940's vintage AM, where it can sound scratchy, tinny, and a large portion of the audience can only get the signal for 10 hours a day? I just don't understand" Great move to alienate and insult your customers in one brilliant move. Thanks for throwing away the proud history of this once great radio station and making it 2nd rate.
09/26/2013 12:44PM
Oh Goody!
As long as you are going back to archaic 30's-40's-50's era technology, maybe we can all gather around the radio on Saturday nights and listen to 'War of the Worlds' on scratchy, horrible sounding AM! It'll be fun!! Who needs crisp, clear stereo quality FM sound that covers ALL of WNY anyways?
09/26/2013 12:47PM
GOING TO MISS WBEN FM
The AM signal doesn't reach my area. Hope I can find a replacement!
09/26/2013 12:59PM
Jim
There has got to be a way of beefing up your signal in the southtowns, I listen everyday but the quality and signal is not very good. Please see what you can come up with.
09/26/2013 1:13PM
You just lost me!
Well, at 12:00 noon today, I switched my radios to 930 AM from 107.7 FM and just as I feared...the reception is terrible. So I guess you have lost another very regular listener. I'll miss Tom, Sandy, Ken and all the rest of the team. Why did youhave to change??????
09/26/2013 1:43PM
Short Sighted
Whoever made this decision lacks vision. 95% of who? People who have AM radios? AM radio is outdated technology. You might as well broadcast with a megaphone. I hope Sandy and Tom have kept their resume's up to date. I am sure you will replacethem with the farm report and rebroadcasts of Paul Harvey next.
09/26/2013 2:14PM
Could it be?
Could it be WBEN management would like to get away from conservative talk radio? It probably would be difficult to just announce a format change but if you destroy your ratings and alienate your audience then when you change formats you can blame it on low ratings. You have to wonder, the recent moves seem so utterly stupid and self destructive I find this theory hard to dismiss. If this is not the reason then Tim W. has to be the most incompetent man in the business.
09/26/2013 2:22PM
Wrong, Wrong, Wrong
I just finished reading ALL of the comments regarding the cancellation of your FM feed. What is going on at WBEN ? Tom B, Sandy then no FM? We can't all be wrong that this is the biggest mistake a Buffalo based business has made in years. Is your management on the Buffalo School Board also?
09/26/2013 2:46PM
Tim's dream
Weeeell... Greg Ried and Tim Wenger killed The Lake and brought "alternative" to to the music starved masses in Buffalo. I remember when Mr. Wenger said "I lobbied for a WBEN-WLKK simulcast for a long time...". How did that work out for ya? Maybe someone should show Tim the lobby...
09/26/2013 4:13PM
Radio is a business...
...and like any other business, is driven by profit, of course. Having said that, from the outside looking in, it would seem that a much more prudent move would have been to dump the AM side over the FM side. I have to think that there is a whole lot more to this story than what we, the listening public (customers) are privey to, or really have any business knowing. As much as we don't like it, it's been proven time and time again that corporate radio (and television) does what it wants, and as illogical as it may seem, has limited regard for what the listening public wants or even needs. Remember, it's the sponsors that actually write the checks. If WBEN was loosing money with the FM simulcast, then perhaps a hard look at managment and marketing might be in order? I also have to wonder if these decisions are being made above Mr. Wenger and tossed in his lap to take the brunt of the backlash from listeners?....Just thinkin' out loud, since I no longer have the means to have a radio station worth listening to anymore at this time of the day...
09/26/2013 5:37PM
I will miss Sandy, Tom , and Rush
Can not get 930 in my area, so I must find another station. It will not be the Lake, it sucks bigtime.
09/26/2013 5:51PM
quality
I switched to the FM dial because the quality was immensely better. AM signals sound as though Tom and Sandy are shouring at me through a pipe. In a time where mobile providers are charging exponentially and placing caps or throttles for data usage to stymie their networks' usage for streaming content, I feel that WBEN has made the WRONG decision. A migration to FM would have been better instead of a regression back to AM. You would have kept your gains and moved your audience to the FM dial. How long before auto makers and equipment manufacturers stop making radios without AM capabilities? Move forward, not backwards.
09/26/2013 6:17PM
Your AM signal to Medina is terrible !!!!!!!!!!
Why????? 107.7FM solved the problem! Why don't you listen?
09/26/2013 6:48PM
Absolutely Horrible Decision
Did you forget about your listeners in the Southern Tier???? Because of all the hills and valleys, we can't get AM stations. Company policy prohibits me from streaming at from the internet at work, so that is out. Don't have Iphone, so that option is out as well. I cannot understand how your research could have shown that most of your listeners are on the AM dial, when so many can't even get the AM station. And for the record, the music that has taken the place of the simulcast is horrendous. From the looks of the posts....maybe you should have done better research or at least admit you made a bad decision and bring the station back to 107.7. With any luck your advertisers are reading these posts and realize their audience is rapidly shrinking and pull their advertisements until someone at your organization gets their head back on straight and rights this wrong.
09/26/2013 6:55PM
5%, HUH?
I think Wenger misunderstood. Maybe 5% of the population even visit the AM dial. Maybe WGRZ should petition the FCC to broadcast analog signal again. Wenger probably thinks only 5% watch digital TV. The FM listeners were the bread and butter. I would like to see the study. I wager the more affluent listeners tune in exclusively to FM. I have patronized many advertisers heard on 107.7. I bought a car at the urging of Steve Tasker. I had a kitchen remodeled by an advertiser on Sandy's show. I had a furnace done by a prominent advertiser. I seriously doubt AM will attract any serious listeners. Wenger should realize this. I am over 50, and I am done with AM, period. I admit I tried today, for about 20 minutes. Reception is worse than I remember. In the days of yore there was no choice. Now all cars have multiple speakers, so static blasts you from all directions. It is misery personified. Wenger should have known the 5% figure was a joke, and the prankster is probably busting a gut laughing, wondering how anyone could believe such a whopper. Your advertisers are destined to see their future results fall. However, the advertising rates must be substantially lower, seeing the audience WBEN is now soliciting. To say I'm disappointed in an understatement. I feel betrayed and bullied. Now I am forced to either try to listen to horrible sound and horrible reception, or not listen at all. As one of the 5%, I choose the later. Goodbye Tom and Sandy. I listened to Sandy since mid-1960's, when he was on KB, I think after Danny Nevereath (Danny moves your fanny in the morning). I have listed to Tom since he started, which, if I recall correctly, was on GR, after his brother DB did a show after John Otto. You all should be ashamed to push your loyal listeners and patronizers away.
09/26/2013 7:56PM
thanks alot
gooc job wben! you have lost another 2 listeners from the southtowns gowanda area. we dont get 930am here! you guys are real idiots thinking 95% of people are using outdated tech. morons
09/26/2013 9:00PM
Bad move
Living in the Southern Tier, we get very poor radio reception. 107.7 was the exception. Loved 107 The Lake, it's gone. Now this change. I listened to your Alternative music today on the way home and it sucks.
09/26/2013 9:36PM
FM is stereo.. AM is mono
When do you think you might broadcast "Alternative Buffalo" in stereo? Maybe you should inform the engineering department that you're no longer simulcasting mono WBEN.
09/26/2013 11:09PM
not a bad move
I live in Niagara falls and every once in a while I would lose your 107.7 signal to a station from Canada on 107.9 I have never had a problem listening to you on 930am.i did listen to your new alternative rock station on 107.7 and I liked what I heard.however it would sound better in stereo. as far as changing sandy and tom's time slots,i found nothing wrong with that.keep up the good work.
09/27/2013 5:28AM
lost
I live south of Rochester ( Buffalo transplant). I was thrilled to have the FM option because I could actually get the station. I don't have a smart phone, I can listen live at home (if I am close to the computer) but lose that relaxation time on the drive home from work. This is a bad move.

The New 107.7 FM
Welcome 107.7 Alternative Buffalo!!! To Tim Wenger & the Entercom Management, I realize you all had to make some hard decisions. With Rush Limbaugh & other hosts who share his views running on borrowed time these days, there may be more hard choices to be made regarding how WBEN evolves as a news/talk radio station due to shifts in demographics. Back to the new 107.7 Alternative Buffalo, it would not hurt to have a weekly dose of Passport Approved, Suicide Girl Radio & other Alternative Friendly that helped earn Indie 103.1 a solid following in the LA Market and now online.
09/27/2013 7:16AM
:(
Very disappointed to turn on 107.7 and not hear WBEN. I will especially miss it as I leave the AM station coverage area on my way to and coming back from Syracuse. Why not go to all FM coverage and ditch the AM station? Sounds is much better and I wouldthink you'd want the ability to reach a much larger audience. Surprised at a company moving backwards in today's world instead of moving forward.
09/27/2013 7:34AM
bad move
should have stayed on FM better sound quality! AM is so old school!
09/27/2013 8:05AM
The Lake !!!
I turned on my radio to 107.7 and heard the lake LOVE IT Keep it back Please.
09/27/2013 9:00AM
Wrong am station
You own a blow torch in WWKB 1520 AM, but you continue to use 930 WBEN..107.7 put your signal out a much larger audience. WBEN has a pathetic signal when you get away from Buffalo and you must know that. Is the strategy of management, to move away from the over air signal and move to streaming, or is your strategy to boost WHAM 1180 market share, since they easily cover the area 107.7 covered?
09/27/2013 10:16AM
I guess the run is over!
I don't get the am signal at my house or in my car. as I live in the southern tier, I was very glad when the programming was on 107.7. Now I guess i'll only listen online at home when I'm not working
09/27/2013 10:57AM
Going back in time
WBEN is taking a lead from Buffalo - regress instead of progress. With FM, Satelite radio, digital formats, you chose to go FM. Really? First you took Beack off afternoons and replaced him with a substandard personality. Now tou took 107.7. there are other options as you put it - mine will not be listening to AM radio.
09/27/2013 11:28AM
Program Director for 107.7
PLEASE! Don't hire back Hank Dole as PD for Alternative 107.7
09/27/2013 4:39PM
Your am signal is terrible.
I love talk radio, but your am signal and sound are so bad that I will go back to 103.3 FM. Good bye, and good luck
09/27/2013 9:11PM
How rude!
Imagine my chagrin when I turned excitedly to 107.7 this Thursday afternoon. I looked and then looked again. This was the right station, but where was Tom B.? I turned the car radio on and off, listened to a couple of songs (thinking maybe Tom had a new intro) and then admitted defeat. I would have to return to the AM dial. Now when that was the only option, it was great. BUT, now I have been conditioned to a greater quality of listening, and the station just sounds grainy! Tom's ghost stories today were worth the grainy listening, but this is just plain rude!! I must drive all over WNY for work, and I've enjoyed the broader coverage area of the FM broadcasts. Please rethink!!

happy happy
I applaud the change, AM is good for me, & I think I will love the new FM station. I miss WUWU, this is the closest format since then. I sometimes listen to WBEN from my smartphone, & I only hope you can solve the volume issues on the interweb streaming. 50 male & NOT a Bauerle fan BTW.

TuneIn Radio versus WBEN's App
This may not take care of the data usage issue, but it might help with the buffering issue: We have switched away from the WBEN app to the TuneIn Radio app for listening online via the smartphone. There is almost no buffering issue with TuneIn Radio. To do this, Browse and use the Search feature in TuneIn Radio to find "WBEN," listen to it, and then add the station as a favorite. TuneIn Radio is a free app for iPhone and Android, unless you want the added ability to record what you are hearing, in which case you will pay $0.99 (or something akin to that--we purchased this two years ago) only once for the privilege to record throughout TuneIn Radio.

Go back to FM
I really do And you know what I mean Sandy's catchphrases Poor Tony forced to laugh. Extend John and Susan Right into Sandys slot He's so boring As far as the FM and a.m. debate FM was the best decision you could've made Been a loyal listener for 20 years My son who's 25 would laugh at me for listening to talk radio One day he shot me a text Did you hear what Tom said this morning Here's an idea put Sandy on radio 930 And move everyone else to FM Loyal but confused listener

Bring back FM
As so many said before me, we live in the Southtowns and don't get am reception either in our homes or vehicles. Its only Tuesday and can't tell you how much we miss listening. I also find it hard to believe that 95% of listeners tune in to the am side. Bad decision

Marty O
Jerks Sounds like your talking through a toilet paper roll, when I can get your signal.

107.7
I was disappointed to discover my favorite radio station no longer on FM. The FM signal is so much pleasing to listen to. Why not discontinue AM and tune the 95% onto a better listening experience?
10/02/2013 9:03PM
FM way better than AM
Ditch AM and turn the 95% on to a better listening experience!

Two bad decisions...
First...the move of Sandy and Tom...now this. Your AM signal in the southern tier is practically nil. FM was the answer to adding more listeners. Oh well...

BAD move!!!!!!
who listens to AM?????who were all these people you asked? being in my car AM radio is bad. I REALLY miss Sandy on my ride home in the afternoon!!!!!!!!!

Bad moves
Was not happy about moving Sandy to mornings and now your dropping your FM signal! In my opinion, both are bad moves and turn off your loyal audience. Really enjoyed your FM signal here in Rochester. Your AM signal is weak and full of static (especially in the car) and your Internet reception has frequent pauses due to buffering (even on TWC broadband).

I miss the 107 station
I live in the southern tier where you can't get many signals at all. 107 FM came in perfectly so that's what I listened too in the car at work, at home, now I am back to the garbage thank you very much. I miss you guys.

930 Borefest
Am or FM, I miss the days when WBEN had more balanced programming. What's with all the predictable ideological blather? it's boring!

Drop in the ratings
WBEN's latest 12 rating should tell you something... perhaps the all liberals are horrible rhetoric has grown old?

Turn the DARN radio back on
Erie County Southern tier can NOT get AM radio. Been listening to WBEN for ages. FM was are only reception. AM is only good in car. Husband bought some kind of internet radio or whatever. That buffers to much or whatever it is doing. Now we supposedly need an antenna. Goodness, you have to be loosing out on a large market with country people missing out on your broadcast. For God's sake, turn the radio back on.

Can't get AM
I listened every day, but CAN'T listen anymore. I really enjoyed the FM station too. BRING BACK THE FM STATION!!!!

My "Drop in the ratings" post not printed correctly
It should read: WBEN's latest 12 plus rating should tell you something... perhaps the "all liberals are horrible" rhetoric has grown old?

Listening to WBEN has become too much of a hassle.
OK. We can no longer listen due to the weak AM signal. We are not allowed to use internet streaming at the office. So, I set up to listen on my phone (although only a limited amount due to data rates). However, I found that there is a constant problem with buffering when using your WBEN app. So, I listen in as much as I can by using the TuneIn app. Although the buffering issue is still there, it's not quite as bad. In the process however, I've discovered a couple of other (out-of-town) stations to listen to, who don't have anywhere near the buffering issues as WBEN, and have just as enjoyable, if not better programming. So thanks to the idiotic idea of removing WBEN from the FM band, I was able discover other stations to listen to, some without the hassle of internet connectivity, buffering, worthless station apps, etc. Also, discovered an FM station out of Rochester that I can actually receive in my office. Thanks for driving me away from WBEN!

Listen from Philadelphia
I have been listening to wben on the FM dial, and cannot get AM. That's OK; I listen to the AM station out of Philadelphia, 1210. How interesting that I can get a station 400 miles away and not one 50 miles away. If I ever hear of an companies who advertise on WBEN, I will be sure to not support them in any way. WBEN does not care about me, so why should I care about them?

Turi Ryder's "Exception To The Rule"
It's bad enough that trying to listen to WBEN has become quite a chore since it's dropping the FM side, but for cryin' out loud, how many more times do we have to listen to Turi Ryder's "Exception To The Rule" about her friend(s) not "tweeting" her back?? What the heck is going on at that staion these day? WBEN should be a the flagship station for Buffalo, and instead, it's more and more resembling a sinking fishing boat! Just like your one promo suggests that WBEN is about as Buffalo as it can get..yep, you sure are. Two steps forward, three steps back. What a shame.
