Buffalo, NY (WBEN Newsroom)  -- Job seekers are seeing increased competition, according to new statistics out from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. In April, there were 5.4 candidates for each employment opening. That figure is up slightly from March. The state unemployment rate for April was 7.7%. The Buffalo area rate was 8.5%.
 
The building at 300 Main Street in downtown Buffalo is for sale for a reported $850,000. At the site are a law firm, Subway outlet and another restaurant.
 
Barnes & Noble College Booksellers will soon run the bookstore and store website for Niagara County Community College. Business First says the deal goes into effect June 16th.
 
Endion Hospitalist Systems has formed a SeniorCare Division. The company has contracts for the service in Williamsville, Orchard Park and East Aurora.
 
Rainbow Tropical Fish opens at its new location at 2314 Niagara Falls Boulevard in Wheatfield today. 
 
Tonight, Buffalo civil rights lawyer David Jay receives the 2009 Lawyer of the Year Award at the Erie County Bar Association’s annual dinner.
 
At a Rotary Club luncheon tomorrow, Anthony Baynes will receive the “Service Above Self” Award from the group.
