Buffalo, NY (WBEN) When the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation took over 190 acres of Outer Harbor land from the NFTA, Governor Cuomo said he wanted a public process to determine what it would look like.
Today's your first chance.
At the WNED Studios downtown, representatives from the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation will hear from the public on what they'd like to see go on the Waterfront. "Come to these meetings, bring your ideas, thoughts, and input and participate in the planning process and the establishment of a blueprint for these properties," says Sam Hoyt. He says there have been calls to build a football stadium or declare the land for parks, but Hoyt says he doesn't just want to hear from high-profile groups. "All ideas are welcome, all ideas are encouraged, and all ideas will be given serious consideration," he adds.
Hoyt says Western New York has been waiting too long for the waterfront it deserves, and Cuomo wants the process to be as transparent as possible. "Our hope is the public's going to show up, roll up their sleeves, and they're gonna give us good ideas as to what they want their waterfront to look like," says Hoyt.
The meetings are set as follows:
Wednesday, July 9, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., WNED Studios, 140 Lower Terrace, Buffalo, NY 14203.
Thursday, July 10, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Makowski Early Childhood Center, 1095 Jefferson Ave., Buffalo, NY 14208.
Saturday, July 12, 9 - 11 a.m., Old First Ward Community Center, 62 Republic St., Buffalo, NY 14204.
Hoyt says if you can't make the forums but have ideas, you can submit them to www.canalsidebuffalo.com.
