Zellner Excited About Democratic Primary

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) On this primary day, the eyes of the pundits will be on the Democratic side, where there are primaries for mayor, sheriff, and county legislature.

"We fielded some great candidates this year, and we feel they'll be successful," says Erie County Democratic Party Chairman Jeremy Zellner. At the top of the ticket, the race for Buffalo Mayor. Zellner is backing Byron Brown against challenger Bernard Tolbert. "I think the mayor's done an excellent job. His theme has been progress, and I think he's merited re-election."

The sheriff's race has become heated between DIck Dobson and Bert Dunn. Zellner says it's about campaign funds Dobson has accepted. "We've asked Dobson to disassociate himself with this PAC, given the folks associated with the group supporting him. We believe they're misleading voters, we believe they've broken the law, and we believe there's a lot of illegal money going there," says Zellner. Zellner says whoever winds will have a tough time against Republican incumbent Tim Howard, but believes voters will look at Howard's record and back the Democratic winner.

Zellner says once the primary ends, "We're all Democrats, and I'll certainly support whoever wins the primary in these races."
