Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - There are some signs and statistics pointing to fewer deaths related to opioid overdoses and addiction, but the numbers remain staggering and overwhelming.  Whatever the root cause, there is a problem with the abuse of opioid medications and the impact is far-reaching in our community.

On Wednesday, May 23rd, WBEN will devote the entire broadcast day to a conversation about the issue.  We'll discuss the causes, results and real-life impact of opioid abuse on our population and hopefully offer some insight that can help us all have a better understanding of the various perspectives related to this troubling issue.

Each hour from 6am to 6pm, different guests will fill the WBEN studios and we'll hear their perspective on the opioid crisis.  You'll hear from medical experts, addiction experts, pain management experts, recovering opioid addicts and family members of some of the victims of this epidemic.

The 12 Voices in 12 Hours will be followed-up by a two hour LIVE Opioid Conversation at the City of Tonawanda High School auditorium at 6pm.  The forum event is free and open to the public and will include a wide array of  guests from all perspectives on the opioid epidemic.  The complete forum will air LIVE on WBEN 930 AM, be streamed LIVE and will be podcast for replay on wben.com.

Please join us for an important day of conversation, on the radio and at the City of Tonawanda High School.
